Review of MaxxTow Ball Mounts MT70038

Today we're going to be taking a look at part number MT70038. This is the MaxxTow Pintle Hook Mounting Plate for 2 inch trailer hitches. The hitch mounted adapter plate is going to provide a good mounting point for our pintle hook, that is going to be sold separately. You can see here that it's going to offer 4 sets of 9 holes. It's going to let you customize the height of the pintle hook. This unit's going to be made from a sturdy steel construction. It's going to feature a nice solid shank here on the back side of the unit.

It's also got a nice corrosion resistant black powder coated finish on it. Now you will need a hitch pin and clip, or a clip lock to secure this inside of your hitch, standard 5/8 inch of a hole. That is going to be sold separately. This is designed for 2 inch by 2 inch trailer hitch receivers. It's going to offer a weight capacity of 10,000 pounds. When we take a look at the mounting plate dimensions, it's going to give us an overall width of about 4 and 7/8 of an inch. With an overall height of about 7 and 1/2 inches.

The mounting hole spacing left to right, center on center, that's going to give us a measurement of 3 and 3/8 of an inch. Then if we measure it top to bottom, just the spacing between the 2 holes, that's going to measure about 1 and 3/4 of an inch. That's going to be identical when it comes to the separation, center on center, between each hole going top to bottom. Now the shank length, measuring from the end of the shank to the back side of the mounting plate, that's going to give us a measurement of about 8 and 3/4 of an inch. If we take a measurement from the center of the hitch pin hole to the back of this upright brace, measuring to the closest point there at the weld, that's going to give us a measurement of about 3 inches. If we take a measurement from the center of the hitch pin hole, to the front of the mounting plate, that's going to give us a measurement of about 6 and 3/4 of an inch. Then the distance that you have from the center of the hitch pin hole to the back of our shank, that's going to be right at 2 and 1/2 inches. It's a real simple installation.

All you got to do is take your pintle and place it inside of your hitch. Again, this is just going to be your pintle mounting plate. You're going to take it, slide it into your hitch. Can be used in either the drop or rise position. Once you have it installed, you'll need to secure it using the hitch pin and clip, or hitch pin and lock.

If you don't have one, you can find the one I'm using right here in our demonstration, right here on our website, part number PC3. Once you have it installed in your hitch, then you can see that you can easily take the pintle hook, place it on there, install your hardware, and you're going to have, again, 4 sets of holes. That way you can customize the mounting location of the actual pintle hook. Again, the pintle hook is going to be sold separately. That's going to do it for our review of part number MT70038.
