Review of Optronics Trailer Lights MCL32ATB

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Optronics Trailer Clearance and Side Marker Light. This light is a full LED system. LEDs make great replacements for incandescent lights. They last longer, they burn brighter, and they're much more efficient. You don't have to worry about replacing bulbs or worry about brittle filaments. Optronics actually puts a life-time warranty on their LEDs. The light contains an amber lens with a built-in reflex reflector so that eliminates the need for a separate reflector.

The base is a white ABS plastic base. Nice strong, durable design. The lens is a snap-on acrylic lens that's easily replaceable if needed. The unit's going to contain a three wire design. Your white wire's ground, black wire's power, red wire is supplemental turn signal wire. Two mount holes back here.

It's a surface-mount installation, so it mounts directly on the installation surface. To gain access to those mount holes, you will need to remove the lens and install your hardware that way. Mounting hardware is not included. The unit is Department of Transportation compliant. We're going to take some measurements real quick. Starting out edge to edge this direction, we're looking at about four inches.

Going this direction, we're looking at about two inches. The overall thickness or depth is going to be right around one inch deep. The mount holes on the unit are separated on center by three inches. The unit contains a total of three diodes, or three LEDs. The power draw up to a .8 volts is 0.06 amps.

Again, Optronics does put a life-time warranty on the LEDs. We're going to go ahead and hook it up to power. That way you can see what it looks like with some power running to it. Then we'll be able to turn off our overhead lights so you can see it in a low light setting. This unit sends out a nice, bright consistent signal. Again, three LEDs. The lens allows plenty of light to come through. I do have the red wire connected, which again is a supplemental turn signal wire, so we'll go ahead and run through that function as well. That's going to do it for today's look at the Optronics Trailer Clearance and Side Marker Light.
