Review of Pilot Automotive Truck Bed Accessories BBS-1104L

Today we're going to be taking a look at part number BBS-1104L. This is the Round Tube Trailer Hitch Receiver Step with the LED lights for 1-1/4" and 2" hitches. The hitch step as going to allow you to gain easy access to your cargo area, luggage racks, and truck beds. You can even use it on a front-mounted hitch to work underneath the hood of the vehicle. It is designed to work with 1-1/4" and 2" hitches. You can see right now we have it set up for a 2" hitch.

If you want it installed in an 1-1/4" by 1-1/4" hitch, simply just remove the adapter sleeve, and it's going to expose the steel black powder-coated shank that would fit into an 1-1/4" by 1-1/4" hitch. With the 2" hitch, simply just place on the adapter and it would be ready for an installation. The unit is going to feature the attractive round tube styling. We're going to have black rubber end caps on each side. That's going to the protect the finish on the vehicle if we we're to accidentally to bump it with the hitch step. It's also going to keep items out of the tubing. Now, when it's hooked up to power, it's going to have the four-way flat connector that would hook up to your vehicle.

When you activate your brake signal, turn signals, and running lights, the LED strip is going to light up. When operating your turn signal, either the right or left signal, the entire strip is going to blink. It doesn't favor one half or the other. The entire strip will blink when either turn signal is engaged. Now, that light strip is going to contain seven LEDs. If we take the measurement of the light strip, that's going to give us a measurement of 5-7/8".

Again, it does come with the four-way flat connector that plugs into the four-way connector on your vehicle. The tubing is going to be made from a heavy-duty steel construction. It's going to have that black matte powder-coat finish on it, which is going to be corrosion- and rust-resistant. It's going to be topped with a non-slip, high-impact plastic step pad. Here at the shank, we're going to have three pin holes to choose from. That's going to give you options to choose from when it comes to making sure you have enough clearance from the rearmost part of your vehicle and the back of the hitch step. When it comes to the installation, you would slide this portion into your hitch opening.

Again, either 2" or 1-14". Get your pin holes to line up with whatever one is going to best suit your application, and then insert a hitch pin and clip or a hitch pin and lock. The hitch pin and clip or hitch pin and lock are going to be sold separately. If you don't have one, you can find those here on our website. Now, these black plastic pieces right here, these are going to be our shims. It's going to come with a larger one and a smaller one for 2" hitches and 1-1/4". It's got adhesive tape on the back of it. That's designed to be wedged in between the receiver opening and the shank of the hitch step to reduce any play or rattle or wobble from within the hitch. Now, we're going to take some time to go over some measurements real quick. The overall width of the hitch step, measuring from edge to edge, that's going to give us a measurement of about 18-3/4". The height is going to measure about 3-3/4". When it comes to the step pad, that's going to give us a width measurement of 9" and it's going to give us a depth measurement of around 3". Nice textured surface to ensure sure footing. The unit is going to have a capacity of 350 pounds. Now, I want to take some extension measurements. If we take a measurement from the edge of the step to the center of the first pin hole, that's going to give us a measurement of about 6-5/8". To the middle of the center pin hole, we're looking at about 8-1/16". To the center of that rear pin hole, we're looking at pretty close to 9-1/2". The pin holes are all going to measure 5/8" in diameter. We can simply confirm that by taking a measurement real quick. Each one is going to measure 5/8". Now, these pin holes are going to be separated on center by 1-7/16". The distance from the back of the step to the center of each pin hole- When I'm measuring from the back of the step, I'm measuring from the outermost point of the step here at the back, so, actually to the back of the tubing to the center of the hitch pin holes. Taking that measurement to the center of the first pin hole is about 2-1/8". To the center of the middle pin hole is going to be about 3-9/16". To the center of that rearmost pin hole is going to be about 5". Now, we're going to go ahead and show you how to install this, and we'll also hook it up to our power source. That way you can see what the lights look like. Very simple installation process. You just take it, slide it into your hitch, and line up your pin holes with whatever one is going to work best for your application, and then secure it with a hitch pin and clip or hitch pin and lock. For our demonstration today, we're simply just using part number PC3. That can found on our website. That's going to be a 5/8" pin, and it's going to come with your clip. Now we need to hook it up to our four-way connector. We'll get that all hooked up, and then we can turn off our overhead lights and make sure our power source is fully connected. Plug up our wires on the other side. Make sure we have our plugs seated together all the way. You can see this is going to be the running light function, and then when we activate our turn signals, you can see how that illuminates for a brighter signal output. It's also going to do that same thing when we activate our brakes. Again, that light strip is going to measure 5-7/8" long, and it's going to contain seven LEDs. That's going to do it for today's look at part number BBS-1104L.
