RV Safe - 12V 2 Wire RV LP and CO Detector Alarm - RS54FR Review

Jeff: Hello everybody. This is Jeff at Today, we're going to take a look at this two wire 12 volt RV propane gas and carbon monoxide detector. Now this propane gas and carbon monoxide detector alerts you to potentially dangerous levels of gas in your RV. It'll give you four beeps and a flashing red light to indicate carbon monoxide. And it'll give you a continuous beep and solid red light indicates propane gas or both gases.

I wanted to zoom in here, so you can see what it looks like on the front here. It is a highly selective sensor, which means fewer false alarms from non-threatening gases. The CO sensitivity is as low as 70 parts per million, and the LP sensitivity is as low as 4,200 parts per million. It does have this test silence button right here for easy testing. And there's two holes here, if you can see it, they have two LEDs that will flash green or red.It is a nice compact design for a low-profile modern look.

Now it does come with these universal mounting brackets to allow for retrofit of 90% of all surface and flush-mounted detectors. I'll give you the measurements on both of these. On the larger one the length is about seven and a quarter inches. Width of it is about three and three eighths inches and the mounting holes center to center is right at about six inches. On the smaller one, it's going to be five and three quarter inches by four and a half inches, and the mounting holes center to center is five and a quarter inches.

You can see they're designed to accept the unit, just like that. You screw in there or put it in there, whichever mounting bracket will work for your application. Now this does exceed the UL2034/1484 and the CSA requirements. You can see it is a nice black color. It is made in the USA. A few specs on this.

The RV voltage requirement is eight volts to 15 volts. Lifespan on this is about five years. The audible alarm is 85 decibels. And at the end here, I am going to hook this up just so you could hear and then see the lights. The dimension on this unit itself is going to be one end to the other, right at four and a quarter inches by two and five eights inches, and only about a half inch deep. The mount hole spacings on it is right at three and five eighths inches. Now, one note I do want to mention is because LP gas is heavier than air, this detector should be installed more than 18 inches from the floor so that it can accurately detect the amount of gas in your RV. It does come with an owner's manual to describe everything you need to know and how it installs. So what I'm going to do now is hook it up. It's two wires, a red power and a black ground. So if we go ahead and hook up our power, and then we go ahead and hook up our ground. I do have the power already on. Let me just zoom in so you can see. This green light is showing you that it is on. And also what's nice is on the very front, underneath each light, it'll tell you what the light's doing and right there, you don't have to find your instructions to find out what that light means. It's all right here on the front. Now what I am going to do is be aware here when I press this it's 85 decibels, so it is pretty loud. So when you press the test button, you can see the red light flashing. So you see it gives some quick spurts and then it'll go just like that. I am going to disconnect it, but it'll just keep going on like that. So if you notice it is very loud in here and in my room right in here, it is very loud. But that should do it for the review on the two wire, 12 volt RV propane gas and carbon monoxide detector.
