RV Safe RV Gas Detectors - Black RV Propane Detector - RS44FR Review

Jeff: Hello everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a look at this RV Safe 12 volt, two wire RV propane gas detector in the black color. Now this propane gas detector will alert you to potentially dangerous levels of gas in your RV. It'll give you a continuous beep and a solid red light to indicate propane gas. It does use a highly selective sensor, which means fewer false alarms from non-threatening gases.

And on the very front here is a silence test button that you can push for easy testing of the alarm. The alarm intensity is 85 decibels. You can see it has a nice compact design, gives you a low profile modern look and it is a curve shape to be less obtrusive. Now it does include these two mounting brackets. They are universal mounting brackets to allow retrofit of 90% of all surface and flush mount propane gas detectors. This part will replace the Safe-T-Alert 20 series, 30 series and 40 series and most Atwood and Dometic branded propane alarms.

It comes with some nice instructions and the mounting hardware to install it. This does exceed the UL 1484 and CSA requirements and this one is in the black color. They also sell this in a white color, we sell separate on our website. That's part number RS64FR and it's listed on this product page as a related product.A few specs on this. The lifespan is five years.

The RV voltage requirement is eight volts to 15 volts. LP sensitivity as low as 4,200 parts per million. Give you a few dimensions on this and then what we're going to do is hook it up to some power just to . I want you to hear how loud the alarm is. A few dimensions on this.

The overall length from one end to the other end is right at four and a quarter inches. The width of it, it's going to be right at two and five eighths inches. And the depth of it is only about a half an inch. Now, the mounting hole spacing, the two mounting holes center to center, it's going to be right at three and five eighths inches. Now, one note I do want to mention to you because LP gas is heavier than air, this detector should be installed no more than 18 inches from the floor so that it can accurately detect the amount of gas in your RV.So, what we're going to do now is there's two wires to connect. Your black is your ground, the red is your power. So, we'll go ahead and connect our ground and we'll go ahead and connect our power. And with those connected, you should be able to see . Let me zoom in again. You can see the green light is on, which means it's getting power. And then what'll happen is as we mentioned. I'm going to push this test alarm here. You can see that it'll get you a continuous beat and then right down here you'll get a solid red light and that'll indicate the propane gas is in your RV. Go ahead and disconnect those. But that should do it for the review on the RV Safe 12 volt, two wire RV propane gas detector in the black color.
