RV Safe RV Gas Detectors - RV Carbon Monoxide and Propane Detector - RS34FR Review

Jeff: Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a look at this RV Safe 12 volt, two wire, RV propane gas and carbon monoxide detector in the white color. Now, this propane gas and carbon monoxide detector will alert you to potentially dangerous levels of the gas in your RV. It'll signal with four beeps and a flashing red light that will indicate carbon monoxide gas, or it will give you a continuous beep and a solid red light to indicate propane gas or both.It does use a nice, highly selective sensor, which means fewer false alarms from non-threatening gases. And on the very front it has this silence test button for easy testing.

You can just push it and it'll set the alarm off to let you know it's working. The alarm intensity is about 85 decibels. Now, at the end of this video, I am going to hook it up to some power just to show you how loud it is.It is a nice compact design for a low-profile, modern look, and you can see it as a nice curve shape to it that's less obtrusive. Now, it does include these two universal mounting brackets here to allow you to retrofit this to 90% of all surface and flush-mounted propane gas detectors. You can see this will attach right in there like that, or you can use this adapter, attaches the same way. Now, this will replace Safety Alert 20 series, 30 series, and 40 series, and most Atwood and Dometic-branded propane alarms.

It does come with a nice set of instructions on how it put goes together, how you connect it, and how it operates, some mounting hardware for installation. Now, this does exceed the UL 1484 and CSA requirements. You can see it is a nice white color. We do also sell this model in a black color. It's part number RS54FR, and it's listed on this product page as a related product.A few specs on this.

The life span is five years. The RV voltage requirement is 8 volts to 15 volts. The LP sensitivity as low as 4,200 parts per million. Give you some dimensions on this. The length of it from this end all the way across to this end, it's going to be right at 4 1/4".

The width is 2 5/8". Total depth is about 1/2" and the mount hole spacing, you can see the two mounting holes, if we measure those center to center is going to be right at about 3 5/8".Now, one note I do want to mention is because LP gas is heavier than air, this detector should be installed no more than 18" from the floor so that it can accurately detect the amount of gas in your RV.So what we're going to do now is we'll go ahead and hook it up. It's a two wire connection, so the black wire will be your ground and your red wire will be your power. And you can see with them connected, I'm going to go ahead and zoom in, and you'll be able to see. It might be hard to see. I covered it a little bit. You can see the green light that shows it's getting power. So the power is on. Right next to it is where the red light would be. So basically, just to show you. And you can see that red light flashing. So that gives you the different versions of how loud it is and the light that will be showing up.But that should do it for the review on this RV Safe 12 volt, two wire RV propane gas and carbon monoxide detector in the white color.
