Reese Fifth Wheel Hitch - Ram Prep Package Fifth Wheel Hitch - RP37FR Review

Micheal: Hi there. I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a quick look at the Reese M5 Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch. This is going to mount in the bed of your truck. It's going to provide that nice solid attachment point for your fifth wheel trailer so that you can pull it down the road. Now, this does have feet that are going to work with your 2014 and newer Ram 2500, as well as your 2013 and newer Ram 3500.

Both of those with the eight foot bed and the OEM prep package. And when I say the feet are going to work with that, basically these levers are going to swing out, and it's going to allow you to drop these feet into the pucks on your prep package. So you'll just open up all four levers, set the hitch down and then close the levers like so, and that's going to lock the hitch into your prep package on your truck so that you have a nice, solid connection to pull that trailer. This is a nice sturdy hitch, it's going to give you a gross towing weight of 20,000 pounds. That's the trailer and the load included. It's also going to give you a vertical load limit of 5,000 pounds.

So a really good hitch, going to allow you to do a lot with those fifth wheel trailers. You can see our head here is a nice, fully articulating head. It's got built-in shock dampening technology that's going to help absorb road shock and help to limit chucking. So it's going to be a more comfortable and smooth ride for you. This is also an extra large landing area, so it's going to be very easy to hook up.

The V notch here in the front is going to make it easy for you to target your kingpin as you back up. I do have a model kingpin here to show you how this is going to work.So as you back your truck up to your trailer, going to line that kingpin up, the Slack back. It's going to lock around. We do have a single piece talent jaw here. It's going to wrap around the kingpin to ensure a proper connection.

It does provide superior contact so you're not going to get much rattle. It's going to provide a lot of security there to make sure that that kingpin stays where it's supposed to be as you're traveling down the road. This is an always ready jaw, so as you saw, I didn't have to do anything to get it ready.Out hitch is in the stowed position now, and so whenever we're ready, we just back up to our trailer, and it's ready to accept and hookup to being towed. This does have a high 10 rock out that ensures the proper alignment and engagement with our kingpin. So when it is in, you can rest assured it's going to be ready to tow, but we also have this tow no tow indicator here, that's going to be visible both from our cab and from the side of our truck next to the bed. So as we're hooking up, we'll be able to see that that's ready. So green is go, so ready to be towed. If we we're to pull this out, you can see it turns to red. So it's telling us we're not all hooked up, ready to be towed, but we are ready to disconnect. And then our handle can go back in place like that. Now this is a really nice handle, it's very easy to use. It's going to give us a lot of options. Got an ergonomic grip on it, so very easy to hold onto. And as far as pulling this to the release position, you can do it with two fingers. Very easy to do. If I zoom in again here, we'll see at the base of our handle, there is a pin that will ensure that everything is properly aligned and secured. You can get a padlock or something like that to put in there, give you a little bit of extra security. So as I put the kingpin in, it's ready to be towed. We can just simply drop this down, but if you do want to do a padlock or something to make sure that that's always going to stay closed when you're not around, no one can come up and disconnect your trailer and take off with it or something like that, locks are sold separately. It just comes with this pin.But the center section here is a nice wide center section, so it's going to give you a lot of support. This does have three different height adjustments to it. So right now we've got the legs in the center one, but you can see the higher adjustment holes here, and then there's also lower adjustment holes. So it's going to give you three different height settings to make sure that you're going to clear your side bed rails. You're going to have a height setting of 14 inches at the bottom, 16 in the middle, and then up to 18 at the top. Vice versa, sorry. So the lower the center section is going to be your 14 and then reverse that order. So this is a nice sturdy steel construction. It's got a durable powder coat finish on all the black surfaces that you see here. The handle, the latches and the jaw are all zinc.So again, going to help resist corrosion and last a nice long time. This does come with a limited lifetime warranty, so you can trust it's going to hold up well. If you we're to have any problems with it, you could give us a call. We'd be happy to work with you. We want to make sure that our customers are having a good experience, getting quality products. And I really don't think you're going to have any problems with this. I think this is going to be a nice, solid option for you. If you've got a Ram with that prep package might as well use it. This is going to be a really easy way to connect to your fifth wheel trailer and ensure that it's going to be with you all the way down the road. So that's going to complete our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Thanks for watching.
