Hi there. I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a quick look at the Reese M5 fifth wheel trailer hitch. This is going to be a great option for those of you who have a fifth wheel trailer that you're wanting to pull behind your pickup truck. This is going to work with your 2011 and newer Ford F-250 Super Duty, F-350 Super Duty and F-450 Super Duty all with the eight foot bed and the OEM PREP package. It will also work with your Reese elite series, aftermarket under bed fifth wheel rails.

The way it's going to fit into those is with our feet here. These are going to fit into your factory pucks or the pucks on your Reese aftermarket under bed rails. Basically you'll just open these up and drop it down into those openings and then turn them back to lock them in place.And then put your little clip there that will give you a nice firm connection. So it's very easy to get this in and out of your truck so that you can have full bed access again, or be ready to tow your fifth wheel. This is a really nice well-built hitch.

It's got a sturdy steel construction with durable black powder coat finish to it. The components that are not powder-coated are a zinc construction. So they're going to hold up well, so overall not going to have to worry about any rust or corrosion, anything like that. And it is very strong. It's going to give us a gross towing weight of 27,000 lbs and that's the trailer plus the load included.

It's also going to give us a vertical load limit or how much pressure it can stand on coming down on the kingpin here of 6,750 lbs.So a nice sturdy hitch to pull those fifth wheel trailers for you. As you can see, we do have a nice wide head here. It's going to make it very easy for us to get hooked up. It is fully articulating, so it's going to help limit chucking, and it also has built in shocks to help absorb some of those road shocks. So be more of a comfortable ride for you as you're going down the road, you can see, we do have a nice big V notch here to make it very easy for your kingpin to find its way into the proper position in our jar, once we get our kingpin here, we do have a single piece talen jaw that's going to wrap around the kingpin to ensure a nice proper connection.

I've got a model kingpin here for you, so you can see, I'm not putting this into a ready mode or anything.This is an always ready jaw so we don't have to pull any levers or anything, just back up. That's going to allow the kingpin to go right into position and you can see it's got a nice firm grip on there. So we're not going to have to worry about any wiggle room or anything like that. It's going to have a nice firm connection so that everything is going to ride the way we want it to. On the backside here, you can see we've got a ready to tow, no tow indicator. So right now it's not ready to tow. Just push that in a little bit. That goes full green so this is visible either from the cab if you're backing your truck up to your fifth wheel, or if you're on the side, working with the lever here or the handle, you can see that to see if it's a ready to tow or not.And what it is just simply put this pin in place to make sure it's nice and secure, you can also trade this out for a pad mock or something along those lines to add some extra security to make sure no one's going to be able to come along and disconnect your trailer from your hitch. When you're ready to disconnect, we'll just pull this lever very easy to do. You can see that it's changed to red again, which means it's not ready to tow and then pull away from your trailer. The kingpin will pop out and you're ready to go. This handle is a really nice handle, it's very easy to grab hold of. It's going to stick up nice and high above your bedside rail. So very easy to reach over and hold too. You can move it with just two fingers. So very easy to use and very easy to hold onto.So nice little handle there to control everything. On our center section here it is a wide center section, so it's going to be very stable. You can see, we do have three different height settings have got it set on the lowest setting, but we also have middle holes here and then upper holes so that we can adjust to fit our application. Now that's going to give you four inches of travel. So depending on how much height you need, that allows you to make sure that your trailer is going to be at least six inches above your truck's side rails so that you don't have to worry about any sort of contact there. And then another nice thing is if you need a little bit more distance between your hitch and your cab, so that you have a little bit more clearance there, you can see that our, our head is recessed just slightly from the center here.So it's not exactly center, it's just a little bit back. You can switch the section around 180 degrees, and that's going to put that a little bit forward. So you get about a one and a half inches more clearance for your trailer, from the cab, if you do it that way. So a nice little option for you there. Now you are going to have to install this when you get it, it does come in three different sections. So you're going to have a box with the legs in it and the box with the center portion and then a box with the head. It's very easy to get, put together. Basically, all you're going to need is a 24 millimeter socket and a torque wrench that goes up to 220 pounds. Now those are some things that you might not have lying around the house.I would encourage you if you don't have those already, check your local auto store, a lot of them have rental options for you so that you don't have to purchase it just for this one application. But once you have the right tools, it is very easy to put this together and just a few bolts and everything, and the instructions are included. So very easy to assemble and then this does come with a limited lifetime warranty. So if you we're to have any problems, you could give us a call, we'd be happy to help you out with that. We always want to make sure that our customers are getting a quality products and having a good experience with us.So overall, I think this is going to be a great option for you, especially if you have the Ford pickups with the factory prep package, this is really easy to get installed and take out if you need that access again.
