Reese Fifth Wheel Hitch Slider - RP50024 Review

Michael: Hi there. I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a quick look at the Reese round tube slider for your fifth wheel trailer hitches. This is going to provide clearance for your short bed pickups to make sharper turns when towing your fifth wheel trailer. So when you're towing a fifth wheel, your shorter bed trucks sometimes have trouble making tight turns because your fifth wheel hitch has to be in front of your rear axle or on the cab side of your rear axle and so that's going to put it pretty close to your cab. That doesn't give you a whole lot of clearance with your fifth wheel trailer. So a slider like this is going to help allow you to push the hitch back behind that rear axle so it gives you a little bit more clearance there, so you can make those tighter turns without having to worry about your trailer hitting the cab. This model is going to give you 10 inches of adjustability so that you can slide back 10 inches.

One thing to keep in mind with this model, you are going to have to manually adjust it. So you'll have to get out of your truck, move this pin over to the other side and adjust the hitch so that it will be in the sliding position and then get back in and make your turn. Then when you're done with your turn, get back out and move it back into the towing position. There are some other models out there that will automatically slide for you, specifically, the Demco Autoslide, so that just automatically takes care of it. You don't have to get out of your vehicle as you're going down the road.

If you start to make a tight turn, that will automatically slide back for you. So it'll be a little bit more convenient if you're worried about having to get out of your truck and change this every time. That might be a better option for you.But of course, with convenience comes a higher price. So if you are willing to do the manual adjustment, this is going to be a great model for you. It is going to work for your trucks that have a six foot bed or greater.

You don't want to use it with anything that is less than six feet. This is going to work for your Reese and Pro Series 16,000 pound and 20,000 pound fifth wheel trailer hitches that we're manufactured after 2016, as long as they have the short stance legs that measure 20 and five eighths of an inch from center of pin to the center of pin. This will also fit most of your industry standard above bed base rails. The little feet here will just slide right into those rails and the mounting holes will align with the Reese rails to reduce play, but they will work with other base rails as well. The floating rollers here move from side to side to accommodate the mounts that are not completely square and it is going to be capable of 20,000 pounds. This does give you a nice smooth and round rail here. It's embossed so it's going to help inhibit binding and create less friction than some of your other systems.

It is built to comply with the SAE standards for your fifth wheel trailer hitches. So you can trust it's going to meet those specifications, do a good job for you. It includes the rubber grip here to make it easy for you to adjust the handle, get a nice grip on there, and it does have a nice powder coat finish to help resist rust and corrosion. It's very simple to get assembled. All the instructions are included with pictures and diagrams to help you get it put in place. Like I said, if you are needing a little bit more clearance for your short bed pickup truck as you're hauling your fifth wheel trailer, this is going to give you a nice option of getting that clearance.Personally myself, I would probably get tired of having to make those manual changes all the time so that's why I'm more inclined towards the Autoslide. But if you are willing to do that, this is going to be a very economic model and option for you.So that's going to complete our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Thanks for watching.
