Reese Fifth Wheel King Pin - Pin Box Upgrade - RP94716-61301 Review

Today we're gonna take a look at the Reese Goose Box 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Air Ride Coupler Adapter for the Lippert 1716 pin box. Has a 16,000 pound weight capacity. Now this unique coupler lets you tow your 5th-Wheel Trailer with your Gooseneck hitch. The Goose Box will replace the standard pin box on your 5th-Wheel trailer, and this is an Air Ride pin box, so it ensures less stress is put on your trailer's frame than what is typical with a lot of the traditional king pin adapters.Basically, this will just simply replace your trailer's existing pin box with this Goose Box and you're all ready to go. And this is endorsed by Lippert Components so will not affect the warranty on their trailer frames. On this pin box, they have a fully enclosed air bag right down here and dual shock absorbers to help provide cushion and absorb road shock.

This will improve handling in overall ride. It will also decrease both vertical shock, which is the bounce, and longitudinal shock, which is the chucking. It will limit the strain on your truck and trailer frames and the air bag down here, it can be adjusted for the right amount of support. And the way you do that is if you look right in here, there's an opening. This is your air inflation indicator, and when it shows all black like it is now, that means that it has low air pressure. So what you do is take your air hose, hook it up to the valve, put some more air in there, and as it's airing up if you keep an eye on it, you'll watch it'll start to turn white.

Now if it turns all the way white, that's way too much air. You need to reduce it some. You want it to show about half white and half black. That'll give you a good nominal air pressure you want to run in this coupler. The pivot tube right down here that goes over the gooseneck ball, this is designed to help minimize jarring by allowing fore and aft movement. It has a greaser fitting on the back for lubrication, and there are some holes right over here, one on the handle and one on the pivot tube that you could actually put a block through there and lock it so nobody could open it up and try to hook it on and take your trailer. Now this is a sturdy steel construction.

It has a powder coating for a nice corrosion resistance. It has a simple bolt on installation. Comes with the mounting hardware you need and the spacer kit to install it. It is designed to replace the following pin boxes, the Lippert 1716, the Lippert 0115, and the Lippert 1116. Towing capacity on this is 16,000 pounds.

Tongue weight capacity's 3,200 pounds, and it is designed to fit on the standard gooseneck diameter ball size of 2 5/16 of an inch.Last thing I wanna show you, just how to hitch it up and how to unhitch it. It's pretty simple. To hitch it up, all you have to do is make sure that this coupler handle's in the locked position. You can see it's green here and it says locked. This handle needs to be in that position. Then all you do is lower this down onto the goose ball, the handle will open up by itself, and then snap shut over the gooseneck ball. And then you're all ready to go. You just wanna make certain that this handle has returned forward and is in the locked position before towing. To unhitch it, it's pretty simple. All you do is take this handle, use this pull cable, pull the handle back, and this cable or the handle will move into the unlock position. And to keep it in that position there's a little cable stop here that you hook right here. Excuse me. That'll hold it in the unlock position, and then all you need to do is just raise the trailer off the gooseneck and that will release the cable, and it'll go back in the locked position. But that should do it for the review on the Reese Goose Box 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Air Ride Coupler Adapter for the Lippert 1716 pin box. It has a 16,000 pound weight capacity.
