Review of Reese Gooseneck and Fifth Wheel Adapters RP94623

Today we're going to review part number RP94623. This is the Reese Goose Box 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Air Ride Coupler Adapter for Lippert 1621 and 1715 pin boxes and it has a 20,000 pound weight capacity. Now this is an air ride coupler which will let you tow your 5th wheel trailer with your gooseneck hitch. Basically this coupler right here, this Goose Box will replace your standard pin box on your 5th wheel trailer. It is endorsed by Lippert Components Inc. so it will not affect the warranty on their trailer frames. Has a fully enclosed airbag on the inside and dual shocks, it'll provide cushion and absorb road shock.

Does improve the handling and the overall ride. The other nice thing is it will decrease both vertical shock, which is the bounce, and the longitudinal shock, also known as chucking. It does limit the strain on the truck and trailer frames. The pivot tube on it, it also helps to minimize jarring by allowing fore and after movement. It is a simple bolt-on installation, right back here is what you'd bolt onto your trailer. The mounting hardware is all included.

The finish, this is a sturdy steel construction with a nice powder coat finish for corrosion resistance. Specs on it again, it is designed to replace the Lippert 1621 and 1716 pin boxes. The towing capacity is 20,000 pounds. Tongue weight capacity is 4,000 pounds and it is designed to fit on the industry standard gooseneck ball size of 2-5/16 diameter. Comes with a limited lifetime warranty. Now basically, couple features on this just want to show you, is when you go to hook it up, what you would do is make sure it's in the locked position.

And you can see here where it's green it says locked, red it says unlocked. If you leave it in the lock positions, what that allows you to do is when you drop that onto your gooseneck ball, it will automatically click into place and lock it into position. Once, now if you're ready to unhook from your trailer, then what you need to do is pull on this cable, there's a little knob right here that you want to hook onto this, right into this little opening. That will hold this into the unlocked position and unlock that from the ball. Then you can raise up your trailer and pull your truck away. But when you do go to hook up, all you have to do is make sure this is not hooked on, make sure it's released and in the locked position.

Then once it drops on, it will automatically click up into place. The other thing is right here is the air valve to fill the air bags on the inside and to help you out on that, usually they say not to go over 50 psi range. Usually keep it in about 35 to 40 psi, but what else helps you out, there's a label right here on this lower part, it'll be yellow at the bottom and yellow at the top and then green right in the middle. At the top, it'll say too much air and at the bottom in yellow, it would say add air. Then the green middle it says max 50 psi. You want to keep it in the green and actually there's a nice thing, this has an automatic air relief valve in it, so that keeps you from over-inflating it and actually that feature will actually help you get the correct air pressure in there. Basically what you could do is once this is all hooked up, fill this, put the air in it until you get it to the green area and then just add a few more pounds. Then what happens is go ahead and drive the vehicle, step on the break a few times. What that will do is push that excess air, it'll vent off so it'll get rid of that excess air, and then that should put you right at or near the green area, which is your most optimum pressure. It will also help you get the right amount of air on the airbags in there. But that, oh one last thing I do want to mention is on your tradition gooseneck coupler locks will not work on this design on this goose box. They do recommend the wheel lock should be used instead. But that should do it for the review on part number RP94623, the Reese Goose Box 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Air Ride Coupler Adapter for Lippert 1621 and 1716 pin boxes with a 20,000 pound weight capacity. .
