Review of Reese Trailer Coupler RP94622

Today we are reviewing the Reese Goose Box, it is a replacement pin box for your 5th wheel trailer that allows you to tow with a Gooseneck in the bed of your truck. It features an air ride air bag, and dual shock absorbers to reduce chucking, jarring, and bounce of the 5th wheel trailer while towing, and has an easy to use coupler latch. This pin box eliminates the need for a Gooseneck adapter to go from the 5th wheel pin to the goose neck ball in the bed of your truck, and is endorsed by Lippert the manufacturer of many pin boxes, will not void the frame or the 5th wheel warranty. This pin box has a 16,000 pound capacity with 3,200 pin weight capacity, and will significantly help improve the ride of your 5th wheel trailer when towing with a Gooseneck hitch in the bed of your truck.

The variable in these situations is the trailer. It all depends on the shape and size of that nose section of the trailer. I talked with my contact at Reese about the easiest thing to do. The Goosebox measurements are really the same as the 1612 Lippert pin box. That is the centerline of the ball matches the centerline of the king pin. Since you have both the truck and trailer you can back the truck under the trailer at varying angles and use a plumb line to center the pin over the gooseneck ball, or where it would go. If the trailer is narrow enough and there are scoops or cuts in the nose then you may be OK. Other wise, you would need to go with a slider fifth wheel or a Sidewinder pin-box with a standard fifth wheel for the neccessary turn clearance.
