Tekonsha Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring - Trailer Hitch Wiring - 118800 Review

Narrator: Today we're taking a quick look at the Tekonsha T1 Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector. This is gonna allow you to safely tow your trailer or operate any other device that has that 4-Pole connection. It gives us all our lighting functions that we need. We'll have our running lights, stop and turn for both the right side and the left side, as well as our ground connection. It comes with a little dust cap to go over those terminals, make sure that no dirt or debris can go in there and cause any corrosion. Something I also like to do with the excess 4-Pole wiring, if it's hanging out the back of your vehicle you can actually kinda tie it up with this little attached piece here. It helps to just act as a quick little wiring connector. And then we'll have our module box itself. Now this is gonna be kind of the brains of the operation.

This is where all our connections are made. It's filled with this epoxy potting material. It helps to keep all our connections safe, provides a little road dampening protection so we don't have to worry about bumps along the road causing any damage to the circuitry on the wiring itself. We usually have a good long life out of Tekonsha wiring. They do a good job of making sure that everything lasts a long time. We'll also have to connect up our ground.

Now this you can either connect via a stud that already exists in the back of your vehicle, or use the included self-tapping screw to mount this to a good chasse ground on your vehicle. With this wiring we'll have an in-line fuse. Comes with the cap here to protect the fuse, and then inside we'll have our 15 amp fuse already in place. That's nice if there's any issues that arise on our trailer side, we don't have to worry about that causing any damage to our vehicle's wiring. It's going to short out the fuse instead of shorting out the system itself. Now one thing with this, this is a custom fit for the 2019 Acura RDX, and the way you install this, you remove the trunk panels and then the driver's side lower interior panel, you have to pop that out of place. And that's where you're gonna actually make your wiring connections.

There's no cutting or splicing with this, but that fuse is also gonna be right there so if this ever blows you're gonna have to replace that fuse and you're gonna have to pop that panel out again. Not a huge deal but that is something to keep in mind, that that fuse is gonna be living behind that panel. So if it does ever happen to fail or if you need to change out the fuse you do have to get back in there. Typically not that hard. You just have to pop some clips out of place, take things out, and you just wanna make sure you're really careful when you do that so that you don't break any of those clips. On our module box there's also a little hole that we can mount this up with a zip tie or self-tapping screw to get that securely mounted in place.

And besides the ground and our white plug here that's really all we have to connect. It's gonna be a pretty easy system to wire up so it should be something that just about anybody can do themselves. You'll wanna run your wire out the back.A lot of people will just drop the 4-Pole wiring out of their back hatch. You wanna make sure that you avoid the striker on your latch there around the hatch door, but the weather stripping that goes around that back hatch is thick enough that it's gonna provide the protection that you need for the wiring so you don't have to worry about this getting smashed by putting it through the door. But if you don't like that, you can always find a factory grommet, run this through there and have a more permanent mounting. Just whenever you're running this outside your vehicle you wanna stay away from your exhaust, anything that's moving with your suspension, or any other sharp edges and use some zip ties to keep everything nice and tight and out of the way.It comes with a hand full of zip ties including a little double sided piece of foam tape to help in mounting our module box, hat self-tapping screw I mentioned earlier, and then we'll also have our instructions that do a pretty good job of illustrating where our wiring connection is gonna be made. All our wiring's constructed of a 16 gauge bonded wire. Our amperage for this for the stop and turn lights is five amps per circuit, and for the tail lights it's 7.5 amps per circuit. If you need a five, six, or 7-Pole adapter you can find those available here at etrailer dot com, but they are sold separately. And that's gonna do it for our look at the Tekonsha T1 Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector.
