Tekonsha Wiring - Trailer Connectors - 119147KIT Review

Today, we're gonna take a look at the upgraded Modulite vehicle wiring harness kit with the four way trailer connector and an installation kit. Now, this is a universal hard wire kit that will provide you with a four way connector to power your trailer's basic signal lights. This will power your trailer's stop, turn, tail, and running lights directly from the tow vehicle's battery using this power converter. This will virtually eliminate any draw on your vehicle's tail light circuit, and this will work with either LED or incandescent bulbs on both the trailer and the vehicle, and it is designed to work with most vehicles' multiplex wiring systems for lighting. The tail light circuit has been upgraded also to work with vehicles using PWM, which is pulse with modulation, allowing this converter to turn on fully, giving your trailer maximum light brightness. Now, this may be used on a two and a three wire system. But you do need to remember when you use it on a two wire system, this red break wire, that needs to connect to the ground.

If it's on a three wire system, it'll connect to the stop light. Now, this does eliminate the need for a heavy duty flasher. Included with this whole kit will be everything laid out here on the table. This upgraded Modulite wiring harness, which will connect to the vehicle's wiring harness. The Modulite install kit here for connecting to the vehicle's battery, which includes 20 feet of 12 gauge wire. This in line fuse holder with a 10 amp fuse.

Two butt connectors, one ring terminal, some cable ties to take up any slack in wiring, and this ground screw for grounding your white wire.Comes also with this neat circuits tester, which will help you find wires behind your vehicle's tail lights for connecting your Modulite to that. Also, these five quick splice wiring connectors will make tapping into those wires very quick and easy. Now the four way, if you notice, does have this integrated four way cover here that'll protect your floor pull connector from the elements, and it reduces dirt and debris or corrosion for a nice, trouble free use. All you have to do is just push it on like that, and it'll protect those terminals. Does with a nice set of detailed instructions that will describe how to hook up everything. Now, the maximum stop and turn light amps on this is one per side, is 2.1 amps.

Maximum tail lights is 7.5 amps. And then just briefly, I just want to go through a little bit how this would connect. You would just go to the rear of your vehicle and these pigtail wires are what's gonna tap into your vehicle's wiring harness, and you'll use the circuit tester to test them function for function. But basically what will happen is the brown wire is usually for your tail lights, the red wire we mentioned is usually for your stop light, unless it's a two wire, then you ground it. The yellow wire would be for your left turn signal, and this green wire, it's a length of wire, will go over to your passenger side and be for your passenger's turn signal. Here's your four way that will run out the back and plug onto your trailer.

These two wires, the white wire you can see has an eyelid on it. That's for connecting to a good, clean ground. If there's not one nearby, they do include this grounding screw that you can make your own ground. And then this remaining power wire, which is the black wire. This will run to your vehicle's battery, and to help you do that is this install kit right here. So what you'll do is take one of these butt connectors, connect it to that power wire, connect it to one end of this length of wire, and then run this all the way up to the front of the vehicle. And you're gonna connect this to the battery, but you want to run it through an in line fuse holder. You don't want to connect it directly to the battery. So you'll take your other butt connector, connect it to one end of this power wire, the other end to one side of the fuse holder, just like that.Your other side of your fuse holder will connect to your ring terminal, and then that will connect to your battery. And you just pop that open, take the included 10 amp fuse, install it in there, cover it back up, and your system will be all ready to go. Like I said, they do give you these extra cable ties if you have any of this wire that might be hanging down, it'll help you pull that up out of the way. But that should do it for the review on the upgraded Modulite vehicle wiring harness kit with the four way trailer connector and instillation kit.

I have tried several wiring harnesses for my 2009 Cadillac SRX. Thus far no one has been able to make them work. Why? Installers are saying the harness does not work because of the Cadillac’s Electrical system. Any suggestions. Why.

If none of these universal systems are working for you then you might want to check out the ZCI Wiring Kit # 119250KIT . This was made for vehicles that have very delicate wiring. It pulls power directly from the vehicle battery and then the clamps don't splice into the wiring. They basically just sense when there is power and then tell the module to pull power for that circuit from the battery and send it to the trailer.
