Review of Thule Watersport Carriers TH819

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Thule Portage Canoe Carrier with the included tie-downs. These universal mount gunwale brackets provide a simple solution for transporting a canoe on your roof rack crossbars. The durable brackets have the ramp sides for easy loading and unloading and the padded base is going to ensure safe passage for your canoe. Again all the necessary tie-downs are included. It's going to come with four gunwale brackets with the padded braces that provide easy transport of one canoe on your roof rack crossbars. This system can be used to carry a canoe, ladder, lumber or any open holed boat.

It's going to feature that soft weather resistant padded base that's going to secure the grip your canoe and protect it from scratches. Again you're going to have the ramp sides of the brackets that enable easy loading and unloading of the canoe. You're going to get the load straps that come with these pads right here that slip over the buckles, that's going to secure your canoe to your crossbars. Those pads simply slip over the metal pieces of that strap to keep it from scratching your canoe, your roof rack, or your vehicle. Then you're also going to get these ratcheting components right here. These work in conjunction with the blue rope that comes with the kit.

But the ratcheting balancer and tie-downs simply anchor the canoe to the vehicle. They got the carbine clip on one end and on the other end it's going to have the hook. That way you can easily get it connected to an anchor point on the vehicle. When it comes to the brackets here, these are going to be steel reinforced FlipFit mounting brackets. They allow installation on most crossbars. These are reversible, that way you can secure to the crossbars with integrated hand knobs, so there's no loose parts, there's no loose components.

You can again reverse it, that way you can use what ever configuration works best for your particular roof rack system. The durable saddles are constructed of high impact polycarbonate material. You're going to get four brackets. These are going to work well on round, arrow, square, elliptical, and most factory crossbars. You do need to make sure that your crossbar spread is between 24 inches to 36 inches. You can use an adapter, part number THXADAPT12.

That is sold separately but that allows for mounting this system on crossbars with top channels. The product's going to be covered with a lifetime warranty. That's going to do it for today's look at the Thule Portage Canoe Carrier with the included tie-downs.
