Review of Titan Brake Actuator T43397007K

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Titan zinc plated brake actuator. When you apply brakes in your tow vehicle it makes you slow down, well when you do that and you have a trailer behind you momentum pushes the trailer towards the rear of the vehicle. With surge brake systems the actuator is actually triggered as your trailer moves forward, while the tow vehicle is slowing down. The actuator, it's internal, it telescopes which applies force to the master cylinder. It's located kind of inside this body here. That's going to supply the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage your trailer's breaks, so ultimately this hydraulic actuator is designed to synchronize the trailer brakes with the tow vehicle brakes. Really nice design, makes a huge difference, and you'll definitely notice it when you're driving with one of these on your trailer.

One of the unique things about this particular unit is how it attaches to a hitch ball. It's going to have this adjustable design here, so this is going to allow it to fit a 1 and 7/8 inch, 2 inch, and 50 millimeter hitch ball. To adjust it you push down on the lever here, and then you can adjust the hand wheel, and then on the underside what that's doing is it's controlling this wedge. It's loosening that up, so that way you can fit this over one of the three size balls that I mentioned earlier. Then you push the lever down, and you just tighten this around the hitch ball.

That's a really nice design of the unit. It's very easy to use. Another neat feature is that the unit comes with a break away kit. The cable right here is going to attach to your tow vehicle. In the event where the tow vehicle and trailer disconnect your tow vehicle would pull on the cable, which would flip this lever right here, and in turn that would engage the trailer's brakes bringing it to an eventual safe stop. The unit's made from a durable steel construction.

It's going to have a really nice zinc plated finish on it. It's going to do a great job at resisting rusting, corrosion. It's going to look good and last for a long time. It's a bolt on installation, so you're going to have two bolt holes located on each side. These are going to be separated on center and apart from one another by 3 inches. Mounting hardware is not included, so that will need to be provided separately.

Overall length of the unit from very front to very back is about 17 and 1/4 inches. This product is made in the USA. It's designed for hydraulic drum brakes. Again it will fit a ball size of 1 and 7/8, 2 inch, or 50 millimeter. It's designed to mount onto a 3 inch wide channeled tongue. We can tell that by taking an internal measurement right here. If we do that, inside edge to inside edge is going to measure right there at that 3 inch mark. The unit's going to feature a weight capacity of 7,000 pounds with a maximum tongue weight capacity of 700 pounds. On the back you're going to have the connection point for the break line, then right here on top you're going to have this nice cap. Creates a super tight seal, and that's going to be how you gain access to the reservoir which is where your break fluid goes. That's going to do it for today's look at Titan zinc plated break actuator.
