Today we're going to review part number TLD1102. This is the TorkLift SuperHitch Class V Original Trailer Hitch Receiver. This is hitch receiver is a custom fit design. It is designed to fit the 2003 to 2012 Dodge/Ram 2500 and 3500 HD Series in either the long or the short bed and it is designed for the Rams with the factory installed hitch. The way this hitch is designed is it's made to work with the factory installed hitch to get you the dual hitch design. This is specially designed heavy duty hitch, which will allow you to maintain your high capacities when used with the TorkLift accessories like the TorkLift hitch extension or the weight distribution system, which we do sell separately. Again, when you mount this on to your Dodge/Ram it will bolt up, this part right here will bolt upright under your factory hitch, so your factory hitch will be right above this one so it will give you the dual, vertically stacked hitch receivers that will let you tow a trailer and use a hitch-mounted bike rack or cargo carrier at the same time. The hitch receiver is compatible with industry-standard ball mounts and hitch accessories.
Another nice feature on this hitch it is a truck-camper-friendly design and the reason that is is if you put a camper on your truck bed and by chance it happens to extend over the back of the bed and your hitch is sort of hidden underneath, you can add a TorkLift SuperTruss extension, which we also sell separately. That will allow you to install in here and extend your hitch receiver out to clear the bed-mounted camper. Those extensions come in the range of 21" to 60". The nice thing about those SuperTruss extensions is when they're installed properly and hooked up properly. They will not reduce any of your weight capacities like some of your hitch extensions do.
They will maintain the full weight capacity. This hitch is a sturdy steel construction with a high-penetration, dual-shield welding, which will ensure strength and durability. Another nice feature is right around the hitch pin holes on each side here. It's hard to see with this plate on top but it is reinforced and hardened around the hitch pin hole and the reason they do that is when you install the hitch pin through there, on both sides being hardened and reinforced it will protect it from elongating that hole, because lots of times when you'd be towing is the movement of the shank in the hitch receiver will move back and forth and overtime would elongate those hitch pin holes. They took that into consideration and they ended up putting the reinforcement around the hitch pin holes. It's a very nice feature. This is a bolt-on installation.
As you can see for demonstration here I do have the end plates bolted on that are used to mount to your Dodge/Ram. One of the nice features on that is I want to show you on this . the bolts, there's 4 bolts on each side that attach the end plates to this cross tube. I just want to show you the bolts they use. If you look real closely they actually have a spline shoulder; a little bit thicker shoulder with splines on it.
The reason they do that and they are all grade 8 bolts; when you go in you just tap that in to get it started, then when you put your nut on to torque it down, as you torque it down it will pull this bolt and those splines into that end plate and the cross member and it secures the bolt to those pieces, so it doesn't rotate or have the chance of rotating in there. It's a very nice feature they put on there. This does have a nice black powder coat finish that will help resist corrosion. You can see right down here it has the holes in it; these are the safety chain loops. They're built-in that way you can attach your safety chains to. It does come with the 2 Hitch pins and the clips. It comes with the mounting hardware, the instructions, everything you need to install it onto your Dodge/Ram. This is custom fit for your vehicle. It is made in the USA. The receiver opening on this is 2". I'm just going to put a measurement on there to give you an idea; 2". Again this has a rating of a Class V and what that means is as far as capacities, the maximum gross trailer weight capacity is 15,000 lbs; maximum tongue weight capacity is 1,500 lbs. If you do us it with weight distribution it will increase to the gross trailer weight of 17,000 lbs and the tongue weight of 1,700 lbs. The dimensions on this cross tube is going to be 3-1/2" square, this way and that way. It does come with a lifetime warranty. That should do it for the review on part number TLD1102, the TorkLift SuperHitch Class V Original Trailer Hitch Receiver. .
