Review of Weigh Safe Ball Mounts LTB6-3

Speaker 1: Today we're taking a look at the Weigh Safe 180 Ball Mount. This ball mount features a maximum gross towing weight of 21,000 pounds when using the 2-5/16" ball, and 8,000 pounds when using the 2" ball. Tongue weight capacity on the unit is 2200 pounds. It's made in the U.S.A., and covered with a limited lifetime warranty. It is made from aluminum construction. The hitch balls are stainless steel. It is designed for a 3" by 3" trailer hitches, and can be used in either the drop or rise positions. This ball mount has the included hitch balls to let you hook up your trailer to your tow vehicle.

The shank portion of the unit slides into the receiver tube of your hitch, and then the hitch balls provide the connection point for your trailer coupler. Now, this one does have the two differently sized hitch balls. That's going to let you tow trailers that have different coupler sizes, so that way you can easily switch from towing a 2" coupler to a 2-5/16" coupler. The balls are made from stainless steel, which is highly resistant to rust and corrosion, and that is a solid piece design so the ball runs all the way through this platform. It's a solid piece, so there's no welds or weak points. Very strong and durable.

When you're ready to switch between the hitch balls, all you need to do is remove the platform, flip it over, and reinstall it to the adjustable shank.I'll show you how to do that here in a moment, but I also want to point out that the unit features an adjustable height design, so that means that you can actually take this platform and slide it up and down the shank. That allows you to tow different trailers that might have different coupler heights, and it ensures that the coupler height and the ball platform height is level, no matter what vehicle you're using. It's a really nice design of this unit. It helps to ensure that your ball height is as level as possible with the trailer's coupler height, which makes for an overall safer towing setup. To do that, I do want to show you how to go ahead and make your adjustments. You need to remove the rubber cover.

This is included and it protects the lock core from dust and debris. Keys are included as well, so that's another neat feature about this system is that the dual lock assembly is included, which locks the platform to the adjustable shank. So, you place the lock, or the key, in there. Rotate it to the unlocked position. That's going to allow you to pull out the dual pin assembly, and then you can take your platform and flip it, and then reinstall it.

It makes switching from one ball to the other quick and easy. This is also how you adjust it up and down, the adjustable portion of the shank. It is adjustable in increments of 1". That's the distance between each adjustment hole. Once you find the slot you need, just take your dual pin assembly, just slide it back through, and then move it to the locked position, and take your lock cover, place it on there, and again, that's going to protect the lock assembly and that key slot from dirt, moisture, and debris.Like I mentioned earlier, it does feature a rust-proof aluminum when it comes to the shank and the mounting platform. It provides a very clean finish that will last a long time, and this is a solid block construction, so it's made from a solid piece of aluminum. It's very strong and durable. To secure this inside the receiver tube of your hitch, we will need to use a hitch pin and clip or a hitch lock. Those items are sold separately, and the pin holes on this unit will accept a standard 5/8" diameter pin. When you have the platform at the lowest setting, this unit provides you with a maximum drop of 6". It's measured from the inside top edge of the receiver tube of your hitch to the top of the ball platform. When it's in the rise position, at the highest setting, it also offers a maximum rise of 6", doing those same measurements. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the hitch balls, measures 8-3/4".But that's going to do it for today's look at the Weigh Safe 180 Ball Mount.
