Review of Weigh Safe Ball Mounts WS6-3

Today we're going to take a look at the Weigh-Safe Adjustable 2-Ball Mount with the built-in tongue weight scale for a 3" hitch. This has a 6" drop and a 6" rise, and a 21,000-pound gross towing weight capacity. This is an adjustable ball mount with the included hitch balls thatll let you hook up your trailer to your tow vehicle. The shank portion right here is whatll slide into your 3" hitch receiver opening, and then the hitch ball is whatll provide the connection point for your trailer coupler. This is a Weigh-Safe ball mount that has this easy to use built in scale here thatll measure your trailers tongue weight every time you tow. The scale indicates your tongue weights too low or too high.

You can adjust it before you head out so that you can complete your trip, going with the peace of mind that your setup is safe. Now, Weigh-Safe is the only ball mount that has this built-in scale to measure the tongue weight. You might wonder why tongue weights so important. Well, too much tongue weight can affect your driving maneuverability, and too little and your trailer might fishtail, swing into other lanes, or might just come off the ball. Now, tongue weight usually is typically 10 to 15% of your gross trailer weight. For example, a 10,000-pound trailer should have a tongue weight between 1,000 to 1,500 pounds, so you can adjust the tongue weight of your trailer just by removing or adding cargo, or either redistributing the load thats on the trailer.

This Weigh-Safe scale right here is linear rated up to 2,200 pounds. Has marks on the gauge that are in 100-pound increments. Basically, measuring your tongue weight's as easily as just coupling your trailer to this ball mount. Simply hook your trailer up to the ball mount just as you would any other ball mount. The weight of the trailer will push down on this hitch ball. The hitch ball, which in turn pushes down on an internal hydraulic piston thats on the inside of the mount here, that piston sets on a bed of oil, so when the piston drops into the oil the pressure reading is sent out to the scale.

This is an adjustable height, so you can see right here, lets you tow trailers of different heights with the same vehicle. The ball mount platform right here will slide up or down the shank, and secure in place with the included dual locking pins, as opposed to some of your adjustable ball mounts that use the individual pins, and they can be a hassle. It comes with the two keys. All you have to do is put the key in, turn it to unlock it, and you can slide the dual pins out simple as that. Then you can see you can set your adjustment just like that. Then when you get it to the correct height, you can actually take the key out, and it will lock automatically.

When you get it to the correct height you want it at, line the holes up, just push it in all the way, and itll lock into place. You only need the key to remove it. Put the key in, turn it, and remove it just like that. Simple as that. Now, this Weigh-Safe Ball Mount can be used in either the drop position like it is now, or you could flip it over and use it in the rise position. Either one of those positions will gain you 6". If we measured here, its in the rise position, you can see theres your 6" rise, and if we drop it back down into the lowest drop position you can see right at 6" again. Again, its incremental height adjustment. These holes are at 1" center to center. Now, I do want to measure the distance from the center of the hitch pinhole to the center of the hitch ball. I'll lift that up just so we can get a correct measurement. Center to center, the ball is going to be right at 8 3/4" center to center. If you notice, it does come with two different size hitch ball. This will let you tow trailers with different coupler sizes, and switch the balls pretty simple. Let me show you how to do that. Right now, we have the 2" ball in there, and you can see the 2" is stamped at 8,000 pounds. Here we have a comes with a 2 5/16 that has 21,000 pounds. To switch it, all you do is pull this ring that has the retaining pin all the way out. Take the ball right out just like that. Take your 2 5/16. Line the hole up with the hole in the mount. Put your pin all the way in. Push it till it closes, and now youre set up to do 2 5/16 hitch ball. Very simple to do. The balls are stainless steel, so they are corrosion resistant. Now, the hitch shank right up here in the mounting platform, theyre made of a 6061-T6 aluminum. Thats used in a lot of aircraft construction, and offers superior strength and durability. Again, the application on this is with 3" x 3" trailer hitch receivers. The gross towing weight capacity, again, depends on the ball you use. If its the 2", that'd be 8000 pounds. The 2 5/16 will be 21,000 pounds. They are stamped on it. Maximum tongue weight overall its going to take is 2,200 pounds. This part is made in the USA. That should do it for the review on the Weigh-Safe Adjustable 2-Ball Mount with the built in tongue weight scale for a 3" hitch with a 6" drop/6" rise, and a 21,000-pound weight capacity.
