Review of etrailer A-Frame Trailer Coupler CA-5296-B

Today we're going to be taking a look at an A-frame trailer coupler for a 2 and 5/16 inch hitch ball. This A-frame coupler is going to let you hook up your trailer to your tow vehicle. It is a weld-on installation. You've got the connection point for your hitch ball up here at the socket. The unit's going to feature a gross weight capacity of 12,500 pounds and a maximum tunneling capacity of 1,875 pounds. The unit's going to feature this sleeve-lock design that's going to ensure a nice, tight, secure fit around the hitch ball. And it's going to have the pin-style fastener to hold the collar in place around the ball for a secure connection.

That can be replaced with a locking pin. Your locking pin is sold separately but we do carry those at etrailer.com if you're interested. Now to open the unit to connect to a hitch ball, first we would need to go ahead and remove the pin. That's going to be held onto the coupler with a safety chain so we don't have to worry about misplacing that or losing that. It's got this larger lever here on top that we can just slide open, just like that very easy to do, and it kicks out this piece here which means that our socket or coupler is open to receive the hitch ball. Now we can drop this on our hitch ball and to secure it, we simply just need to push this back in and release the collar back down. The easiest way I find to do that, is to push in on the lever, push in on this piece right here and slowly let the collar back over that piece.

When it's fully down we can go ahead and take the pin, re-insert it and secure it by placing the clip on the other side. Now this coupler is made from a steel construction. It's going to feature a black powder-coat finish on it, so it's going to be protected from rust and corrosion. At the back it's going to have the built-in jack attachment point. It's going to allow for quick and easy mounting of a round utility jack and it's going to have the 3 pre-drilled pre-threaded mount holes for your round utility jack. Now when it comes to the overall dimensions of the coupler, measuring from very back to very front, we're looking at an overall measurement of about 17 and 1/4 of an inch. The overall width measuring from edge-to-edge, this is going to give us an overall measurement of about 10 and 1/4 of an inch.

Then internal, so inside edge to inside edge, we're looking at about 9 and 3/4 of an inch wide. Now on the latch mechanism, I did mention that you can replace the included pin, the locking pin. That pinhole's going to measure 5/16th of an inch in diameter, and then you need to make sure that your pin has a minimum span or usable pin length of at least 2 and 1/4 of an inch to work with this coupler. If you're in need of a coupler lock, they are sold separately and can be found right here at etrailer.com. That's going to do it for today's look at the A-frame trailer coupler for a 2 and 5/16 hitch ball .
