etrailer Straight Tongue Trailer Coupler - Standard Coupler - CT-3001-Z Review

Today we're going to take a look at the channel tongue trailer coupler with the trigger latch for two inch hitch ball. Now, this is a channel tongue coupler, which will let you hook up your trailer to your tow vehicle. Does provide the connection point for your hitch ball. It is a straight tongue coupler, so it bolts onto your two inch wide trailer tongue. Does have the trigger latch on the top here, which allows for a nice, safe, and easy coupling and uncoupling. Basically, you just pull the trigger and pull up on the latch to open the ball socket, put it onto your ball, and then rotate the latch down to lock it into place. This is a sturdy steel construction, has a nice durable zinc finish to it to provide superior corrosion resistance, it is SAE J684 certified. We did mention it's a bolt-on installation.

You can see bolt holes here, two at the top, and then two on this side. Now, the hardware to install this is not included, you would have to supply that. The ball size that this fits on is a two inch diameter hitch ball. What I want to show you is, as I happen to pull, here's a two inch hitch ball, and basically what you would do again, is your trigger latch, if you just pull up on it, it'll release the lever right in there, drop it onto your hitch ball, and then when you rotate it back down and push it, it'll clip on there, and then it's locked on to your hitch ball and you're ready to tow. Then to release it, just pull up on the latch, pull it up and it releases it from the hitch ball. Now, the channel width on this, in other words, the inside to inside measurement, coming right at about two and one eighth inches. It's designed to fit on a two inch wide straight tongue trailer.

Overall dimensions on this, if we put a ruler on it from one end to the very other end, it's right at 10 and three quarter inches long. The overall width, including the edges there, is right at three and a half inches wide. Now, the mounting holes, there's two here, two up here, and two up here. The measurement between those mounting holes center-to-center is right at three and one sixteenths, and it's the same on all of them, center to center three and one 16th.The pin hole diameter, there is a hole right here, if you'll notice, on the trigger latch, so when you open it, hook it onto your ball, and then put it down, that hole will line up and you could put a coupler lock through there, to lock it into place, so nobody could uncouple it from your hitch ball. That pinhole diameter is five sixteenths of an inch.

When, if you go to buy a coupler lock, the minimum span, the span is this measurement here, needed for a pin or the coupler lock to fit in is going to be five eighths of an inch, minimum, so anything five eighths an inch and above's inside span on a coupler lock would fit in here. Weight capacity on this is 3,500 pounds, but that should do it for the review on the channel tongue trailer coupler with the trigger latch for a two inch hitch ball..
