etrailer Tow Bar - Hitch Mount Style Roadmaster Base Plates - e44ZR Review

Hello everybody. This is Jeff at Etrailer.com. Today we're going to take a look at the Etrailer SD two inch RV Mount non-binding tow bar for the Roadmaster crossbar style base plates. And this has a 6,000 pound gross towing weight capacity. Now this tow bar will let you tow your vehicle safely and securely behind your motor home. The shank portion right here is what will slide into your two inch trailer hitch receiver on your RV. So there's no ball mount necessary.

And if you notice on the shank right here, there's two hitch pin holes that are about two inches apart, this will allow you to position the tow bar either closer to or further from your RV, depending on your application, without sacrifice any load capacity. If you notice the pin and clip right here is included that's to secure this tow bar to your RV.Also, on this tow bar, there's no need for a high, low adapter on most setups because it has an adjustable head that'll tilt up or down three inches to keep your tow bar parallel with the road during towing. And the shank itself, if you notice here has this built in one and a half inch drop, or if you flip it around the other way, one and a half inch rise for additional height adjustability. The arms on these are telescoping self-supporting arm, makes for fast, easy hookup. And the self-supporting feature is a nice feature on here because the arms won't fall to the ground when they're unfolded. The self supporting design of the arms allows you to telescope one arm out and attach it to the base plate without having to worry about supporting the opposite arm at the same time.

Just to show you what we're talking about, if you look at these arms here. You can see if you lift it up and then you let it go, it'll stay in that position. If you lift it up even a little bit further, it'll stay in that position. And then if you lower it down, it'll stay just like that wherever you need it to.These arms will also give you a full, horizontal articulation, allow for unlimited spread to fit your application. So this arm could spread out all the way this way, this one all the way this way, a whole 180 degrees.

And it has the holes here in these plates that could lock it into place. And also that's one way of securing this alongside your motor home. If you put one arm out that way, one arm out this way, they'll lock into place. You can secure it that way. The other way is if you put both arms together, swing both of them out to the left, they'll lock into place, put both arms together, you can swing them out to the right and the lock into place.

So three different ways to store it up alongside your motor home. This is a self aligning design. You just hook up and drive the RV forward. And basically what'll happen, these arms right here, as you drive forward, that will extend out into a rigid tow ready position. And when you get far enough, you can hear them lock into place. Both arms will do that and you're ready to tow. And then what's nice, they offer a nonbinding design on these arms, so it allows you to easily release your vehicle even if it's on un-level ground. Right here, these trigger releases, there's one on each arm, you just push in on that and it releases the arm. Simple as that. So if they're extended out and locked in and you stopped your vehicle and it happens to be un-level and puts pressure on one of the arms, you can still release it just by pushing that trigger release. Nice feature to have. Also, if you notice on the arms, there's two clips here, two on this arm, these integrated cable mounting clips help keep your included safety cables off the ground, prevent any dragging. If you notice the safety cables, they include have a nice vinyl coating on them to protect them. And at each end to have these steel S-hooks, with a nice spring loaded latch for added security. If you notice on this arm right here has this built in storage rod, and this is the keep your coiled electrical cord in place and off the ground. Now the electrical cord is not included, you would have to supply that. But your electrical cord, usually a coil cord when you plug it in and then plug it in, it'll hang down. To keep it from dragging, all you have to do is take those extra coils, slide them up onto this rod, pin it into place and it'll hold it in place. This does have a nice e-coat finish on it, provides corrosion resistance. This is made in the USA.Specs again, the application, this is for two inch by two inch trailer hitch receivers. The compatibility again, this part number is designed to work with the Roadmaster crossbar style vehicle specific base plates. It will work with the Xcel, the EZ, the EZ2 and the EZ4 series base plates. Now the base plates are sold separately. This part will come as you see with the crossbar and the hardware. Now a few measurements, the arm length if we push both of these arms together, so they're straight in a line here, and then they're all both retracted. If we measured from the center of this hitch pin hole to the center of the base plate pin hole, when they retracted arms is about 39 and a quarter inches. If we extended those arms, that measurement from this hitch pin hole to the base plate hole, it'd be about 51 and three-quarter inches. Also the distance from that same hitch pin hole to the end of the shank right here to where this curve starts and where the rise or drop will start, that measurement is about five and a half inches. The distance from that hitch pin hole to the vertical bolt right here in the shank, it's going to be about 12 and a half inches.Weight capacity again is 6,000 pounds. Total weight of this tow bar is about 41 pounds. It does come with a nice operator's manual that will describe how everything installs and how you can use it.But that should do it for the review on the etrailer, SD two inch RV Mount non-binding tow bar for the Roadmaster crossbar style base plates. And it has a 6,000 pound gross towing weight capacity.
