Review of etrailer Trailer Hubs and Drums AKHD-865-8-EZ-K

Today we're going to take a look at the 12 and a quarter inch trailer hub and drum assembly for 8000 pound E-Z Lube axles. This has an 8 on 6 and a half inch bolt pattern. This hub and drum assembly will provide the surface area for brake shoes to grip when the drum brake is activated. It is compatible with both electric and hydraulic drum brakes. This trailer hub and drum assembly will fit E-Z Lube trailer axles and the E-Z Lube axles are the axles that have the grease zerk fitting on the end of the spindle. That allows you to grease the bearings without having to remove this complete hub and drum assembly. Comes with this E-Z Lube compatible grease cap, which will make lubricating your bearings very fast and easy. It installs right here, tapped on there.

What it allows you to do is when you want to maintain or put more grease on your bearings, you can just pop off this rubber plug and that'll allow you access to that zerk fitting that'll be on the end of the spindle, the E-Z Lube axle. Put your grease gun on that zerk fitting and you can pump the grease right into the bearings. It saves you a lot of time. Makes it very easy because you don't have to take off this whole hub and drum assembly to access the bearings to grease them. This hub and drum assembly does come with everything shown here on the table. It also comes with the bearing races which are pre-installed.

You can see the outer bearing race right here. If we spin it around, on the inside you can see the inner bearing race right here. Does come with the inner bearing, the outer bearing, the grease seal, the E-Z Lube grease cap with that rubber plug, and then 8 9/16th's lug nuts. This is a sturdy iron construction and it has a nice zinc enriched paint coating on it, on the whole drum, to add durability. The bolts are a nice zinc finish to resist corrosion. This is certified by U.S.

SAE standards and CSA, which are the Canadian standards. Again, the application for this is 8000 pound E-Z Lube trailer axles with the number 42 spindles. This is compatible with axles from most manufactures including Dexter, Lippert, and AL-KO. This is designed to work with the 12 and a quarter inch brake assembly. If I turn this around, the brake drum, the inside diameter, is 12 and a quarter inch.

So your brake assembly will fit right in there. The bolt pattern on this is 8 on 6 and a half inch bolt pattern. Weight capacity is 4000 pounds per hub. When this mated with another hub and drum on the other side of the axle, it'll meet your 8000 pound capacity for that axle. These parts, I'm going to show you where they go on the hub. The inner bearing, which is the larger of the 2, it's part number 25580, has an inside diameter of 1.75 inches. We'll go ahead and turn this around. This will go right onto the inner bearing race, just like that. Then your grease seal, which will hold it in place, has an overall diameter of 3.376. That'll tap right on in there. That'll hold all that into place. The outer bearing, which is the smaller of the two, it's a part number 02475, has an inner diameter of 1.25 inches. We'll spin the hub around. This will go right on the out bearing race. Just like that. That'll be held in with the zinc plated E-Z Lube grease cap. Has a flange diameter of 2.72 inches. That would tap on just like that. Your plug, again, can be removed to access the E-Z Lube zerk fitting. For this video I'm just showing you where they are placed in this hub and drum to give you an idea. Of course, when you install this for the first time, you do want to make sure both bearings are greased heavily and then you install them. Form then on you can maintain them through the E-Z Lube axle. It also includes the 8 9/16ths by 18 size lug nuts. Those are used to hold your wheel and tire assembly to this hub and drum. Once you put your wheel up on these studs, go ahead and put your lugs on. Then just torque those down to the correct specs for your application. That should do it for the review for the 12 and 1 quarter inch trailer hub and drum assembly for 8000 pound E-Z Lube axles. This is a 8 on 6 and a half inch bolt pattern.
