etrailer Trailer Hubs and Drums - Pre Greased Hub with Integrated Drum - AKHD-550-35-EZ-K Review

Jeff: Hello everybody. This is Jeff at Today we're going to take a look at this 10 inch pre-greased trailer hub and drum assembly for 3500 pound E-Z lube axles, and this has the five on five inch bolt pattern. Now this trailer hub and drum assembly will provide the surface area for your brake shoes, or your brake magnet to grip when the brakes are activated. They are compatible with electric and hydraulic drum brakes. On electric brakes you'll have a magnet and that's where the magnet would attach, and on hydraulic drum brakes you'll have shoes, and this is the area where the shoes would grip. Now this is a pre-greased hub and drum assembly. It's very easy to install.

There's no need to pack bearings with grease, comes already greased with lithium complex multipurpose grease. You can see the outer bearing has the plug in it, so your bearing's already installed pre-greased. On the inside the inner bearings you can see the plug also, if you take that off, you'd be able to see the bearings inside, and then the grease seal is also installed on there. It does include everything shown here. It includes the pre-greased inner and outer bearings, the inner bearing part number is 68149, outer bearing part number is L44649 The bearing race is already pre-installed, that's what the bearings will sit into. The grease seal I mentioned on the back here is pre-installed, it is part number 58846.

It does come with the grease caps, both a standard and the E-Z lube cap, and then five of the half inch by 20 size lug nuts. Now this hub and drum assembly will fit the E-Z lube trailer axles, and the E-Z lube axles are the ones that have the creased Zerk fitting that's on the end of the spindle, and allows you to grease the bearings without having to remove the whole complete hub assembly from your axle. You'll use this E-Z lube cap on the outside right here, and then when you go to lube the bearings, instead of taking this all apart and removing it from the axle, all you have to do is pop out this rubber plug that's in your E-Z lube cap, just like that, once you pop that rubber plug out you'll have access to that Zerk fitting, put your grease gun in there and pump the grease in the Zerk fitting through here just like that. Now this is a sturdy iron construction, uses zinc enriched paint on the drum to add durability. You can see the wheel studs are a zinc finish to help resist corrosion. This is QAI and CSA certified.Again, the specs on this, the application is 3500 pound trailer axles with the number 84 spindles. It is compatible with standard axles, the E-Z lube axles from most manufacturers, including Dexter, Lippert and AL-KO.

Actual drum dimensions on the inside if we measure it, the diameter is going to be right at 10 inches. The width where the brake shoe would go is two and a half inches. It is designed to work with 10 inch brake assemblies. Bolt pattern on this one is five on five inches. Wheel stud size is a half inch diameter, does use the half inch by 20 lug nuts to hold your wheel to it.

The weight capacity on this is 1750 pounds, so when this is used with one on the other side, it'll meet your 3500 pound axle rating. That should do it for the review on the 10 inch pre-greased trailer hub and drum assemblies for 3500 pound E-Z lube axles, and this has the five on five inch bolt pattern.
