etrailer Trailer Locks - Coupler Locks - E98887 Review

Today we're going to take a look at the etrailer.com Trailer Coupler Lock with the two and a half inch span. Now this part will include the lock itself and the two keys. This coupler lock is designed for the wide easy latch lever on the A-frame couplers and on the trigger style couplers with the quarter inch diameter holes.Basically I pulled both of them just to show you and we're going to show you how they attach. Here's the easy latch pipe lever that's on the A-frame design couplers. You can see it's a lot wider, so it needs the wider span width there. Then, it'll also work with your standard trigger latch type couplers.

They both have the quarter inch holes that the lock will go through. Again, I'll show you in a minute how these all attach there. There will help prevent the coupler from releasing from the hitch ball while your trailer's in tow and it'll also help prevent someone from attaching to an unattended trailer and towing it away.A few specs on this. The pin diameter right here is a quarter of an inch. The inside span width, right at two and a half inches. Overall length on the whole lock is right about six inches.

It is a flush locking design, you can see if I pop the cap open you can see the lock cylinder has a nice rubber cover on it to help prevent any corrosion from any dirt or grime getting into your lock cylinder. On the other end, you can see it has this nice rubber grip on it to help when you're installing the lock, which I'm going to show you now. Here's the A-frame coupler. You can see it has the wide easy latch lever on it, so when you go to attach this to your hitch ball, which you'll do, you just lift open this easy latch, drop it onto the hitch ball, close the latch, and it connects to your hitch ball. There's a hole right here, so to prevent anybody from detaching it from your hitch ball or if it's unattended to keep them from attaching it to their hitch ball and taking off with it, what you can do is take your lock here.Open the cover, put your key in there and it is a threaded lock so you can unthread it with the key. The fastest way is to the hold the key and then just turn the rubber pin on this side and it'll unthread pretty fast.

Again, it's wide enough that you can see the holes right here. So, you can just stick this all the way through the hole, right like that. Go ahead and put your lock on there and again just twist this to tighten it down all the way. Once you get that tightened down all the way, then just remove the key, put your cover on and now you can see that the latch cannot be fully opened. So, it keeps anybody from removing it from the hitch ball or from even attaching it to a hitch ball. Then, to take it off, just put it on, hold the key and again just twist it or unthread it.

Once she gets fully unthreaded, pops right off. Again, it's designed for the wide ones like that, but it'll also work on a standard trigger latch, which is pretty narrow. You just put it through the hole again, put your lock on there, twist it down to lock it and once you get it twisted all the way down, close it up and then you can see it'll keep the trigger latch from opening also. So, it'll work on either one of those. You can order multiple locks. If you want them keyed alike, so if you need four or five of these locks and you want them all to be the same lock so you can just use one key, you don't have to carry multiple keys, you can order these. What you'll do is simply select the key to like option from the drop down menu that's on the product page for this part number and then just enter the number of locks that are needed into the quantity box. This lock is made in the USA. Go ahead and tighten it back on. Again, that should do it for the review on the etrailer.com Trailer Coupler Lock with the two and a half inch span.
