How to Install a Trailer Wiring Harness on a 2002 Chevrolet Express Van

Today on this 2002 Chevrolet Express we are going to install part number 118377 from Tow Ready. This T connector actually connects on both sides of the vehicle behind the tail lights so we are going to have to get inside the vehicle to do our install. We will show you the first T connection we are going to make and we are going to start with the half with the red, yellow, and brown wire and the white wire and that is going to match up right here. There is a little tab that you have to push down and pull everything apart and the T connector fits in between. 00:33

We can pretty much leave this alone for now and then we will deal with the other half of the T connector with the single green wire and that will get ran over across the top of the vehicle over to the passenger side. The same thing is going to apply here, push down the tab and pull it apart and just install the connector. Since it is a work van that is why we are going to run our wire up and across over top to follow the factory wire harness. The next thing we need to do is deal with the converter box and the 4-pole wiring that should be pretty easy to do. We are going to hide everything behind the sheet metal right here and thread it on through and pull it out the bottom. 02:02

Now take the adhesive here and actually attach to the converter box on the back side of the sheet metal. At this point we have an option. The first option is to leave it like this and hide it on the inside when we are not using it and pull it out and shut the door on it when we need to use it. All you have to look out for is to stay away from the latch and you will be fine. In this case we are going to run it outside and what we are going to do is run it along this edge right here, we are going to pull up the seal and make a notch in the sheet metal so we can run it down to the hitch. We are going to pull back the weather strip and we are going to cut off a piece of the sheet metal and just knock it back into itself so it has a nice round edge and not cut. We will knock everything back onto itself to get rid of any sharp edges and we can just route our wire through there. What we are going to do next is give ourselves a little loom clamp and we are going to attach it right behind the sheet metal to help keep the wire out of the way. Wrap around the 4-pole wire and adjust the way you like it and just run a self tapping screw into the sheet metal. Lets our harness on through to the bottom and if you can run and route the wire above the bumper mount behind the bumper and push it on over towards the hitch. That will be the most direct route. Take the excess wire and attach any way you see fit. With that, that will finish our install of part number 118377 from Tow Ready on our 2002 Chevrolet Express.
