How to Install a Trailer Wiring Harness on a 2007 Subaru Outback Wagon

Today on this 2007 Subaru Outback we are going to install part number 118461 from Tow Ready, this is their T-One wiring harness. The first thing we need to do is get access to the inside of the vehicle. We are going to hold up the hatch and remove the floor coverings. We want to get down to the sheet metal by the spare tire. This panel will pop up and we are going to do both sides because on the wire in these vehicles they can be on the driver side or passenger side so it is best to take everything apart and look for it. We are going to remove these parts here and we are going to take our trim panel tool and just pop it from the bottom. There is one more in the corner down here too. Lets repeat for the other side of the vehicle. 00:58

It looks like in this particular Wagon the wiring harness is right here, this bright piece of pink tape here. You have to reach underneath there and you can probably feel the connector. We did some test fitting with the wires and if you put it back here underneath of course this panel will not sit flat and this cable takes up a lot of room. What might be a good idea is use a one inch hole saw and go right through the foam right here. That way if we lay everything inside underneath the panel we have easy access to the fuse if we need to. See how we did, we will run that through, we will plug this into the factory harness, and now we can snap all of our fasteners back together. Mount the module to the sheet metal by the spare tire right here is a nice flat spot at an angle and that will work just fine. Then we will take the rest of our harness and double it up back in here and we can hide it underneath in this pocket for storage purposes. See how this works. It snaps right into place. Lets reassemble the rest of our interior. We have got everything back together lets show you how to use it. Pull the liner back, pull this up, pop up the end here, and you can just put everything back together. Just pull this out and down to your trailer and shut the hatch on it. The seal is thick enough where when you shut it it will not hurt anything so lets do that. Just make sure you stay away from the latch and we are good to go. With that, that will finish our install of part number 118461 from Tow Ready on this 2007 Subaru Outback Wagon.
