Best 2005 Ford Escape Trailer Hitch Options

Today we're going to be taking a look at the best hitch options for your 2005 Ford Escape. First, we've got the Curt class 3 receiver hitch, part number 13650. And then we've got the Draw-Tite class 3 receiver hitch, part number 75751. Curt also has class 3 hitch, part number C13651, and it's not on the rack. It's going to look exactly the same and give us the same features. The only difference is your only able to use it on Escapes that come with the factory one and a quarter inch hitch. The biggest difference that we're going to see between these two hitches is that the Draw-Tite is going to have higher weight capacities than the Curt.

On the Curt we're going to have a 350 pound max tongue weight rating, which is the downward force on the inside edge of the receiver tube here, and a 3500 pound gross trailer weight, which is the total weight of the trailer and anything that you may have loaded on it. On the Draw-Tite, it has a 525 pound max tongue weight rating and a 3500 pound gross trailer weight rating. When used with weight distribution system, the Curt goes up to a 500 pound max tongue weight rating and a 5,000 pound gross trailer weight rating. On the Draw-Tite with weight distribution, the tongue weight stays the same at 525 and the maximum gross trailer weight goes up to 5,250 pounds, which is going to give you more options for accessories like bike racks and cargo carriers. The Curt is going to give us a little bit better clearance away from the rear of the vehicle than the Draw-Tite, but you can also see with the Draw-Tite that we have on this Escape here, that really shouldn't be an issue. Both of these hitches are going to have the plate style safety chain connection points with the drilled holes. Down here on the Draw-Tite, the holes are a little bit larger than on the Curt.

So if you've got larger safety chains to connect, that should make it easier. Both of these hitches are going to be really good with all of your accessories, such as ball mounts, bike racks, or cargo carriers. If you has a J pin stabilization system or would like to use one, this Draw-Tite is going to be compatible with that. As you can see, it's got that smaller half inch hole in order to allow you to use that. Both of these hitches are going to install the exact same way. To give you a brief summary, the Draw-Tite is going to give us better weight capacity with a higher tongue weight rating and a higher trailer weight rating with weight distribution. The Curt is going to give us a little bit better clearance away from the rear of the vehicle. When it comes to towing, due to the weight ratings, the Draw-Tite's going to give us a little bit better options.

It also has the slightly larger safety chain connection points. The Draw-Tite is going to give us a little bit more versatility when it comes to recreational use, like bike racks and cargo carriers, because it does feature the J pin stabilization hole and it has a little bit higher tongue weight rating, but both of these hitches are going to work very well for recreational use. We hope this helps with the decision making process for a hitch for your Ford Escape.
