How to Install the Air Lift Load Controller Compressor System on a 2019 Ram 1500 Classic


Speaker 1: Today on our 2019 RAM 1500 Classic you're gonna be taking a look at, I'm gonna show you how to install the Air Lift Load Controller Compressor System for Air Helper Springs. Part number AL25856.As you can see, with our gauge mounted here on the corner of our dash, it keeps a nice clean look, it's not a huge gauge, plus it's gotta have a chrome ring around the face of it and the buttons are, you know they're not too big so they're not overtaking the screen. It maintains a nice clean look and it looks stylish in here, it really does. It allows you to deflate each bag individually depending on offset weight.Here's what you're gonna get in your compressor kit. You're gonna get your compressor, your complete wiring harness, airline tube, you're gonna get your gauge, a couple different ways to mount it. This is gonna be a flush mount, gonna mount flush on your dash.

And this can either be mounted on your dash like this or it can be hung like this. You're gonna need a couple of T connections, which I'll show you how to put in. Your check valve, these are gonna be two low pressure valves, these are gonna be mounted inside the vehicle underneath the dash.What these are gonna do is you actually have an option to set this system up where you have a certain amount of low pressure in the vehicle. Normally they're set at 5 psi, but you can set it at 10 psi. And if you want 10 psi to be your lowest amount of pressure you want in your bag, what these are gonna do is they're gonna monitor that.

And when that pressure goes below 10 psi, your compressors are automatically gonna kick on, and it's gonna air your bags back up to 10 psi.With that, you're also gonna get a filter, it's gonna go on your compressor, this is a maintenance free compressor, however the filter will need to be checked once in a while just to make sure it's not clogged. If for some reason this does have to be replaced, we do provide them, or we do have them on our website. You're gonna get some additional parts to get it installed, along with some nuts and bolts.A little tech tip, it is a good idea to go ahead and have your airbags installed first before you install your compressor kit. Now that we've gone over some of the features, let me show you how to get this installed.First thing we wanna do for insulation, is we wanna find a location to mount our air compressor. To protect it a little bit, what I like to do is mount it on the inside of the frame rail.

The other thing is we want to make sure we're staying away from heat. Our exhaust pipe runs right here. Even though this whole frame rail's open, it's right by this exhaust so I'm gonna stay away from that.Right on our frame rail, this is usually a good place to put 'em. It's towards the center of the vehicle, our engine blocks most of it from getting a lot of water sprayed on it and then I can angle it like this so my air filter, if any moisture gets in there, it can drain. Your kit's not gonna come with self-tapping screws, so you will have to pick those up, which you can find on our website.

So what I did, is these frame rails are a little bit difficult to get to because of these Allen bolts here. And we don't wanna take those off. So what I did is I took the screw and I just scratched the paint on the side of the frame, let me know where to put them.I'll pull it down and you can see one here and one there. I'll get these started in there first and then I can pull them back out and then it'll make it a little bit easier putting them in with our compressor. Now that we have our compressor mounted, see that's sturdy, we're gonna pull off our red cap here on the end and we're gonna thread in our filter. We don't want to over tighten this or put a whole lot of pressure on it because this filter is plastic.Next thing we're gonna do on here is you have your ground wire and your power wire. Our ground wire, we're gonna take this bottom screw out here, the self-tapping screw, and I'm actually gonna ground my ground wire right underneath it. Now that we have our hole already in, it should be fairly easy to get it out and inaudible 00:04:20.And all we're gonna do is loop, like that, slide it underneath. You don't need to reinstall the screw. Make sure it's secured, not gonna move, we'll be good.Next I wanna make sure that all of my air is out of my bags. My airlines that I have running to the back of the vehicle to air up my bags. I'm gonna cut those in half. We'll start with this one and I'm gonna put on the T fitting. You wanna make sure that your cut is flush, or flat. You want to make sure your line's not pinched or angled. We're just gonna push it in like that, and then we'll take our other end and push it in until it stops.And then we're gonna do the same thing to the other side. Next I'm gonna take my, remember the air line tube that comes with the kit. I'm gonna just go from my compressor back to my T fittings. inaudible 00:05:27 then I just zip tie my hose coming off my compressor. Right are these hard lines.This line I ran back, ran it back along these hard lines. We wanna make sure we stay away from anything hot or moving, just followed my hard lines up and I went over the top of my airbag. You can see the exhaust there. And I went over the top of this cross member here, right over on top of my spare tire, right into my T fitting. Now I've done my driver's side, I'm gonna go ahead and take a yellow paint marker, you don't have a paint marker, you can use tape, colored tape or anything and I'm gonna mark my line up there by my compressor so I know my driver from my passenger.Now one thing I do wanna mention. We are going to have to run another line back there, we're gonna run it the same way, would it have made sense to run 'em both back at the same time, yes. But I want to make sure that I'm gonna have . I don't wanna cut my line too short to where I'm not gonna have enough to go up to the front because we will have to do that.So zip ties are very inexpensive, I'd recommend picking up a bag of those, and you can always use them in the garage or in the house. Now I'm gonna cut this line and I'm gonna run another one back there and go to the passenger side.Now we're going to be adding our check valve onto our compressor, or onto the hose on our compressor. Little tech tip, to make it easier, because these hoses are pretty thick and they're hard to get on over the barb fitting that's on the end, take some hot water, soak it in hot water for at least ten minutes, it'll make that end real flimsy and you should be able to push it on there pretty easy.This hose is coming off our compressor, you're gonna have a fitting on the end. Go ahead and take that off, you'll see that barb there. We're gonna take the end of this hose and we're gonna push it on, we wanna make sure it goes over that barb. Can't forget to put our cap back on. Once you get it over your barb, go ahead and tighten that nut back down.Now, I'm gonna go ahead, even though I zip tied this, I'm gonna go ahead and cut it loose. We're gonna screw one of these into each end and then our two lines we've got running from the back of our bags are going to go into the bottom of the T fitting. So now I'm gonna re-route this, I'm actually gonna zip tie it like this.Then I'm gonna cut zip ties off right here, and I'm actually gonna run 'em like this, because we're gonna have to take airline tubes from here and run them around and go up to the inside of the vehicle. We don't want any kinks or too big of bends in them. Stick that there. Just like that. Then we'll go ahead and throw a zip tie on right about there to hold them in place.So now what we're gonna do is I'm gonna take the rest of my line, I'm gonna meet my two ends, find the center and we're gonna cut it in half. The only other place that we have to run our line is from the T connections we just installed, up through the grommet in the far wall into the back of this.I'm gonna go ahead, insert my hose. Make sure you push it in all the way. Remember, we're gonna mark it, so now that I have it with my driver's side airbag, I'm gonna take the end of my line, I'm gonna mark it with my marker. Now I'm gonna route the air lines up to the engine compartment of the vehicle. Let me get it done real quick and I'll show you how I did it.So I zip tied my lines right here, to this existing hose. Through the side of here to this hard line. Because my exhaust is here, I didn't wanna file the frame on the inside so the idea is I went outside, over the top, right here behind the fender liner to right here. There's a line right here, I went behind it and just pushed my hoses, air line tubes up into the engine compartment. Now I'll go up top and I'll pull them up the rest of the way.And here are my air line tubes. Now we're gonna move to the inside of the vehicle and get our wiring set up. We're gonna have one wire that's gonna run outside the vehicle, that's gonna be our power wire, it's gonna go down to our compressor. We have this pink wire here, that's gonna get attached to our fuse holder and go through an ignition source. We have a couple sets of wires here, a set that's black and gray, actually two sets that are black and gray. They're gonna get connected onto our sensors. Then you're gonna have one that has three, black and gray and pink. In your instructions it's gonna tell you how to hook up this to those three wires.You're gonna take your green and red, you're gonna put a spade connector on them, together and they're gonna connect to the pink wire. Black is gonna be your ground, it's gonna connect to your black wire. White, again with the spade connector, it's gonna connect to the gray wire. What we're gonna do is we're gonna go ahead and get this wire ran through our firewall and our two air lines that we have outside ran inside the vehicle.So the best place I found is right down this bottom corner. You can use a utility knife, screwdriver. Slit it outside and then go inside and slit the inside and run your air line tube through there. I would run one through first, I'd take the other one about four or five inches back and then fold it through with it. Once I've got my air lines pulled all the way in, as far as my power wire, what I did is I taped it on one of them and then pulled it back through, not all the way out, just pulled it back through enough to get this out.Then just remove the tape off of it and I was able to pull my power wire out. So now we're gonna start connecting our wires to our gauge. We need to figure out where we're gonna put it. Ours is actually gonna be mounted right here, right in the corner of the dash like this. Your kit comes with two self-tapping screws. Our customer didn't want the holes in his dash, so he provided us with some two-sided tape that we're gonna apply it with.That being said, our air line tubes are actually gonna run through the back of it, and our wires from our gauge are gonna come out of the bottom. So what I did, was back in the corner of the dash, you can see where I've got 'em ran, it's pretty open space back there and this sits here nice, there's no pressure on it.Now from our gauge, we're gonna feed our wires, you see the hole on the back of that, or on the side of that Go ahead and feed that through there. We're not gonna cut our air line tubes or anything just yet. Go and get this up close up here and then as far as my wiring coming off the back of this, I am gonna run that down beside the dash.This panel right here on the side, I'm gonna pull that off, come down here there's an opening. We'll start pulling it out and we'll be able to pop that right off. Pull down like this. And I'll just get this routed, get it up underneath their dash. Take this and feed it right back under these brackets here, just like that. Now we can put our panel back in.Now again, we're gonna take our red and our green wire, point em together, we're gonna add on one of our included spade connectors, crimp it down, and then we're gonna add one of our black wire and our white wire. Our pink is gonna go through our red and our green. Our black to our black. And our white to our gray.Now our low pressure sensors you can see has a T valve on it. The lines, the air lines that we ran up behind our dash, what we're gonna do is we're gonna pull down just a little bit on them and one sides gonna connect in here, other side's gonna connect in here. Now we're gonna do that on both lines.Air lines, we're gonna go ahead and cut 'em. What I'm gonna try not to do is I don't wanna put them up too high, because when I pull the air line tube back up, I may not be able to reach 'em to secure 'em. So I'm gonna kinda try and keep them down here a little bit farther. I just wanna make sure we cut the air line straight.Push it in til it locks in place and take our other end and put it in the other side. Just like that. We'll have black and gray put on the gray one and the black one. And then we're gonna do the same thing with this line. Now if you remove this kick panel here, it just pops right out. There is an existing factory ground right here, you've got a wire that's coming off.Just make sure you run it up to where it's not gonna interfere or get damaged by the emergency brake pedal. I ran it, there's a little panel here that's push pinned into the side body of the vehicle, I actually ran it behind that pin just to keep it tucked up against there. Our panel's gonna hold it in, but just to give it a little extra.Now we'll just take that bolt off right there, put a ground wire on, put the bolt back in. Next we need to tap into an ignition source. Our fuse panel, here under the dash right by our battery on our driver's side. Our wire is not long enough to come out here, so we do have to extend it, I just took some black wire that I had laying around and I extended it from inside, I went ahead and ran it through the grommet.What we need to do is we need to test to figure out which one is only hot when the ignition is on. And we want it to be at least 15 amps or above. With your test light, if you touch it, it should not be on. When you turn the ignition on then it should be hot. Once you locate that, pull the fuse out and then you're gonna find the hot side.The hot side is the only side that's gonna be on when the ignition is on, which is gonna be, on this one it's gonna be this outside one. So that's the one we're gonna put our fuse tap on. So we're gonna pull this fuse out, use a little . like that.And then in your kit you're gonna have a little tap that looks like this. Actually you're gonna have a couple different ones, but for this vehicle we're gonna be using this one. We're gonna take this and we're gonna put it on our fuse like that, slid all the way up and again we want this to be on the hot side. So when we put our fuse back in, we want the tap to be outside here.Now we'll take our fuse holder, we're gonna strip back both ends. One end we're gonna add the heat shrink butt connector that comes in our kit, other end, we're gonna add the spring connector. We're gonna take our black wire and we ran out to try and feed it back behind the battery to come out on this side here. Just like that, strip that wire back and on our butt connector. Then we'll take our heat source and shrink our butt connector up and when we're ready, we'll take that end and we'll hook it right onto that connector right there on our fuse.Now we're gonna do the same thing on here, a black wire to the short pink wire. It'll say ignition on it. Now I'm gonna go ahead and start cutting my lines and then putting them on these fitting right here in the back. Again, or the other side, it all depends on how you want to set it up. I'm gonna do the driver side on this side which is gonna be this one. I'm gonna do that one first, cut it down. There.Now with everything in place, you can put your access tubing back down in the corner, there and then we can secure or mount to our dash.Any of your extra wires or anything that you may have hanging down here, go ahead and zip tie them up, you wanna make sure you get 'em secured up underneath the dash.Yeah, so I'm gonna cut my power wire down to size here. Now we have an option to add a spade terminal on there and put the two together. I like the hard wire myself, especially being outside like this. What I'm gonna do is I'm gonna cut that end off, we're gonna strip back both ends, I'm gonna add a heat shrink butt connector to it. Now if you don't have a heat shrink butt connector, you can find one on our website.Now remember you have your air line tubes going through here, so make sure you're not pointing heat straight at it, or anything else that can melt for that matter, other than your butt connector.Now we go ahead and connect to our fuse tap. We may have to notch out just a little bit here so it doesn't pinch our wire. So we have our wire secured, then go ahead and add our fuse. Now let's test it out and make sure it's working correctly. Turn our key into the on position. You can see our gauge is lit up. We push our top button, it puts air in. We can also, if you see the two bottom arrows, we can always release air from one bag at a time for off-centered loads.This is set to have at least 5 psi in the bag so it will automatically kick on if we go below 5 psi. So what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna shut the ignition off, I'm gonna let all the air out and when I turn the ignition key back on, it's gonna kick on automatically and automatically throw our bags up to 5 psi. Just like that.And I'm gonna go ahead and fill up my bags to about 40 psi. I'm gonna take some soapy water and I'm gonna check all of my air fittings and make sure I don't have any leaks. So we'll fill up our bags. You don't necessarily have to go to 40, I just use 40 as a good reference point, you wanna go somewhere between 25 and 50 pounds.With our soapy water we'll just, we're gonna spray down our fittings. And what we're looking for, is we're looking for big bubbles. inaudible 00:21:35 up there, we don't have anything moving, any bubbles moving, we don't have any big bubbles.That'll do it for look at and installation on the Air Lift Dual Path Load Controller Compressor System for Air Helper Springs part number AL25856 on our 2019 Ram 1500 Classic.
