Review of the Carr Mega Step Fold-Up Step

Adam: Hi, everyone, Adam, with etrailer.com. Today, we're going to be taking a look at the Carr Mega Step. This is going to work with your two inch hitch receivers and it will be able to fold up. So something that I noticed, one of the more difficult things about owning a truck is getting into the bed, this is quite the task. With this step, it's going to be a little bit easier on your back, your arms and your legs. You can fold it down and you can get into the bed of your truck without stepping on your bumper because our plastic here will wear away over time and we want to keep our truck looking brand new.So as you can see here, we do have a little bit of scratches and discoloration just by stepping on this rear bumper, just one or two times also, it's not really too much room there.

I'll get about a third of my foot onto the step and then I'll just be hitting our nice license plate in the back here. We don't really want to do that. Luckily we have a little bit more room here. I get more of the meat of my foot onto the step, which gives me a more sturdy pivot point to get in and out of the bed of my truck. So the Mega Step is going to be ideal for getting up and loading stuff onto your roof rack even if you have a spare tire on the back. So as you can see here, we have a pretty gritty surface and it is going to be a lot grippier than our plastic up top.

And it is going to last a lot longer as well. It is made of a sturdy steel construction with a nice powder coated finish. So it's not going to fade away like our plastics will up top. It does have a little bit of assembly required. It's just going to be these four bolts here, a washer and a lock nut to put that two inch hitch receiver on the very back end of this plate. So our step is going to have quite a bit of room just in case you're wearing larger work boots in the winter.

It is going to be about 14 inches wide by five inches long, and it is going to have a nice weight capacity of 500 pounds. So with our step folded down from very edge of our hitch to the very end, it is going to be about seven and three quarter inches out, but we can actually fold this up and that's going to bring that distance down to about two and a quarter inches. And you don't have to worry about it hitting your bumper. It doesn't have enough play to damage your nice Chrome bumper. So it does not come with an anti-rattle bolt or a pin. So if you would like to get a locking pin or whatever, you can grab that here on etrailer.com.

I would suggest getting a locking pin because this is a pretty attractive step and you don't want it to walk away. And as you can see here, this is the plate that we will have to assemble onto it. And it's going to have two different holes just so you can get the right amount of distance between your hitch and your step. Not only is this step going to be very functional and help you get in and out of the bed of your truck, when you fold it up, it's also going to look stylish as well. We have a nice symbol here. It's just going to give your truck a nice and clean look.So if you like the folding step function of our step here, Carr also makes a smaller step and is going to be able to fold down just like the one you see here. And we will have many different options on different colors and designs on this plate here. In this instance, we do have black so that's always an option. On top of that, we do have another one that's going to stick out from your hitch a little bit longer. It is going to be fixed so it won't flip up, but you do get a gritty piece of sandpaper just to give you that optimal grip when stepping on your step.So whether you're using this step on your pickup to get into the bed of your truck, or if you're using it on your SUV, just so you can get a better look at loading up your cargo carrier, whatever it may be, if you have a two inch hitch, this is definitely going to get what you need. Thanks for watching. I hope this video helps. And again, this was the Carr Mega Step and I'm Adam..
