How to Install the CIPA Clamp On Universal Fit Towing Mirror on a 2017 Toyota Highlander

Today on our 2017 Toyota Highlander, we're going to be doing a test fit of the CIPA Universal Bar Clamp-On Towing Mirror, part number CM11980. It offers us a wide field of view. It's going to allow us to safely and easily change lanes, pass, park, or even back up while towing a trailer or a camper. As you can see I'm visible in the towing mirror but not the factory mirror. Now, if I take a few steps in towards my trailer, as you can see there's no blind spot by the way we have it set up, but this is the view you get with just your factory mirror. The mirror itself can be rotated 360 degrees, so if you'd like to keep it at that horizontal position for a different view, you have that option. Now it can also be adjusted to most angles.

We've got our up and down, diagonal, and side to side. By loosening up the large nut up top here, we can extend our mirror out to further suit our towing needs. Once we've got it set where we want, we just tighten it back up. Here on the back side, by loosening up this knob, we can adjust our mirror along the bar. The two clamps are not going to interfere with the operation or movement of our factory mirror, and we can even still fold it in.

What makes this towing mirror different from others is it doesn't use any straps to hold it in place around the housing. It's just two clamps on top, so we don't have to worry about any wear and tear done to our finish, and we also don't have to worry about it coming in contact or interfering with our turn signal. A few great things about this towing mirror are, is for one it's for temporary use so you can take it off when you're done towing. Another great thing is it's universal, so if you have any other trucks or SUVs in the household, it may work with those as well. Now, the mirror does come in a quantity of one, so if you'd like to pick one up for the passenger side, just use the same part number. Now I'll show you how easy it is to get installed.

I'm here on the driver's side of my Highlander. To begin our test fit, let's go ahead and turn our mirror over. Now we need to make sure that each one of our clamps here is opened up so we can easily clamp it on to our housing. The housing's going to go between the rubber pad here and the bottom portion of the clamp, and we can loosen them up by these knobs here. Once we've ensured we've got enough space there, we can turn it back over and slide it in place. I'm just going to center it up with my mirror here.

Once I've got it where I want it, hold it in place and then tighten it down. It's that easy. Then we can adjust our mirror how we want and we're ready to tow, and that's going to complete our test fit of the CIPA Universal Bar Clamp-On Towing Mirror, part number CM11980 on our 2017 Toyota Highlander.
