How to Install the CIPA Custom Towing Mirrors on a 2018 Toyota Tundra

Ryan: Hey, everyone. Ryan here at etrailer. Today on our 2018 Toyota Tundra we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the CIPA custom fit towing mirror. So right away, we're able to get these in three different configurations. We can pick up just the driver's side, just the passenger side, or, what I suggest, is picking up the kit.Whenever we use a towing mirror, it's really going to help expand our field of view, so that can really be useful whenever we're making a lane change, maybe trying to back up to a tight parking spot, or just wanting to keep a closer eye on what's going on behind us. So to give you an example on how much more ground we're going to be able to cover, as you can see, I'm visible in our towing mirror, but not in our factory mirror. However, if I take a few steps closer to our trailer, I'll disappear out of that towing mirror and become visible in our factory mirror.

That's really going to help eliminate any blind spots, as well.So one of the biggest concerns when people use universal fit towing mirrors is the fact that they get some rattle or vibration, especially at higher speeds. Well, since this one is a custom fit, we're not going to have to worry about that. It's really going to do a great job of fitting nice and snug to our factory mirror housing, and say even if we do hit some bumps or increase our speed, you can see the towing mirror is going to move with our factory mirror, so that's something we're not going to have to worry about. And what's super nice about these custom fit mirrors is the fact that we're going to have complete adjustability of our factory lens. It's not going to have any interference, that way you can find that spot that works best for you.And let's say, if you needed to fold your mirrors in, for whatever reason, perhaps you are parked on the street, you're still able to completely bring them in without any interference, so that's really nice. You can swing them in.

You're not going to have to bother at trying to remove them every time you want to park in the street. In the actual towing mirror itself, the lens I noticed is very clear and crisp. So when you look into it, it's not going to have a dull or foggy picture like some towing mirrors have, and it's also going to be completely adjustable, so you'll be able to go up and down, side to side, whichever way you need to to find the most comfortable position. So at the end of the day, a really nice towing mirror. This would be a great choice for those of you that plan on doing a lot of towing. That way, if you want to leave it on, you're really not taken away from the looks of your Tundra. Honestly, it kind of has a factory appearance, which is great.

But if you don't tow all that often, or you want to take it off every time, really not a huge deal, because it is very easy to put on and take off. Speaking of which, let's go ahead and pull one on together now.So to begin your install, you're going to take your tow mirror and this piece here. Now, there is a piece of felt that you can stick on here and that's just going to help protect your mirror from any scratches or anything like that. But, however, for video purposes, we're going to leave that off for the time being. But that being said, that's just going to slide in this little channel here, so you can kind of hold it in place.

We're just going to take our tow mirror, we'll just slide it right over our factory housing. So once you have it over the factory housing, this piece here, you can kind of push in and snug everything up nice and tight where it's fitting properly. Then we just come here to the knob and snug it down. And that's really all there is to it. I will say you don't really need to crank down on this knob by any means. You just want to get it snug. That way you won't have to worry about our mirror kind of bouncing around, but if you picked up a set, you'd simply just repeat the same process over on the other side. And that'll finish up our look at and our installation of the CIPA custom fit towing mirror on our 2018 Toyota Tundra.
