How to Install the CIPA Clamp On Universal Fit Towing Mirror on a 2020 Toyota Highlander

Ryan: Hey, everybody. Ryan here at etrailer. Today on our 2020 Toyota Highlander, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the CIPA universal fit towing mirror, which is also sold as a set.Whenever we use a towing mirror, it's really going to expand our field of view and that can make us feel much safer and confident as we're pulling our trailer down the road. It's really going to come in handy whenever we're backing up into a tight parking spot, maybe making a lane change, or just wanting to keep a closer eye on what's going on behind us.To give you an example on how much more ground we're going to be able to cover, as you can see, I'm visible in our towing mirror, but not in our factory mirror. However, if I take a few steps closer to our trailer, I'll disappear out of that towing mirror and become visible in our factory mirror. That's really going to help eliminate any of them blind spots as well. One of the big questions we get asked all the time in regards to universal fit towing mirrors is if you're going to have any noise or vibration, especially at higher speeds.

Well, this one does clamp directly to the factory mirror housing and if you wiggle it around, it's actually moving with the factory housing, so I really don't see that noise or vibration being a big issue for you.One of the really nice things about this mirror is that we're going to have full and complete adjustability of our factory lens. We're going to be able to go completely up, completely down, even side to side, without any interference at all. Now, if you do find yourself in a tight parking spot or something like that, and you need to free up a little bit of space, we're still able to completely fold our mirrors in all the way without making contact with the body of our Highlander. And since this mirror don't use straps or anything that goes around the front of our factory mirror, it's not going to interfere at all with our turn signal.Since these are universal, chances are pretty good if you happen to have another vehicle in the household, they're probably going to be able to work with that too. It's really not a big deal to take them off and put them on, switch them around, whatever you need to do. And that's because they're really easy to get installed. What you're going to do first is come to these knobs and you're going to want to loosen them all the way up, that way this gap in here will be the biggest it can.

We're going to take that and put it in between our lens and our factory housing. This'll just slide in between the gap there. And once we hold it in place, figure out where we want it, we can just lightly snug these knobs down. If you picked up a set, you'd simply just repeat this process over on the other side. That'll finish up our look at, and our installation of, the CIPA universal fit towing mirror on our 2020 Toyota Highlander.
