How to Install the CIPA Clamp on Universal Fit Towing Mirror on a 2018 Jeep Cherokee

Rob: Hey everybody. It's Rob here at etrailer.com. And today, we're going to be taking a look at the CIPA Clamp-on Universal Towing Mirror on our 2018 Jeep Cherokee. Now, here I am at the back of my trailer, and you can see me at the factory mirror. But whenever you are towing a trailer, you need a wider field of view, so we can make sure that we're safe to change lanes, turn or possibly even park our trailer. So, as I step away, you are going to lose track of me in the factory mirror, but the towing mirror is going to come in and help us see a lot more. You can see I'm quite a bit further away from our trailer.

So again, if I'm in the next lane over, we'll be able to see what's over there and make that maneuver safely. And it definitely helps out, especially when you're backing up your trailer too. If you have a really wide trailer or really long trailer that you want to keep an eye on the tires as you're going around a curve, towing mirror just has a lot of different things that's going to help us out with. And it's going to prevent us from having to take our eyes off the road and stick our head out the window. Now, our towing mirror is going to clamp directly to our factory mirror and then provide us with an additional mirror for that wider angle. Now, with this one, it's really nice.

We have this knob here. We can loosen it up, and we can actually get an extremely wide view because we can loosen it up and actually extend this arm out pretty far. And again, get a lot wider of an angle so we can see exactly what's going on behind us.Now, at the same time, the mirror itself is fully adjustable. So it will be able to adjust it up and down, left and right, diagonally to get whatever angle we need. Now, right now, we have it in the vertical position, but we can always rotate it for a really wide-angle view.

Again, extending it all the way out so we can see everything behind us. And the way it attaches to your factory mirror, is this going to use these clamps here. Now, we're not going to have to worry about any scratches or abrasions. I know some people may be a little bit nervous having something directly clamping, but there is a soft rubber pad on the clamp that touches the mirror. So I got to worry about any kind of scratches or abrasions on the paint itself.I really like this mirror because of the clamp style. A lot of other universal mirrors do use straps that strap around the housing, but that typically interferes a little bit of the operation.

But with this one, we can still fold our mirror in if we have a really close quarters situation, where we need a little bit more room and we don't have to remove the mirror. On top of that, we're still going to be able to adjust our factory mirror to whatever angle we need, because the tabs are right in between the housing and glass are not going to interfere with it at all. Now, one of my favorite things, and I'm sure you're going to appreciate about the mirror, is that it has a universal design. So if you have more than one vehicle you tow within your family, chances are this might fit that too. Now our mirror does come as a single unit, or you can get it as a set. So you're going to have a towing mirror on each side of your Cherokee. Now they're going to install the exact same way, again, super simple. In fact, let's go on and show you how to get this driver one installed. To get the mirror in place, it's really simple. Simply just want to loosen up these turn knobs. And if you look, there's a little pad in there, it's going to raise up. You don't need to loosen them up so much that the knob actually comes out. You just want a decent gap in between that little tab here and that pad. So loosen them up. And then we want to slide the tabs right in between the glass and the housing. And that rubber pad is going to sit right on top of our mirror. It's a little bit of a snug fit, and we just slide them in place. And then simply tighten down the turn knobs. That's all there is to it. And we can simply adjust the mirror out as far as we need to, adjust the angle of it so we can see our trailer and we're ready to hit the road. But again, I'm Rob here at etrailer.com. And that'll finish up your look at the CIPA Clamp-on Universal Towing Mirror on our 2018 Jeep Cherokee.
