How to Install the CIPA Clip-on Towing Mirror on a 2018 Jeep Cherokee

Hey everybody, it's Rob here at etrailer.com, and today we're going to be taking a look at the CIPA clip-on towing mirror on our 2018 Jeep Cherokee. Now, here I am in the back of my trailer, hooked up to our Cherokee and you can see me in the factory mirror. But the problem comes in when I step away, you're going to lose track of me, but that's where a towing mirror is going to help out. It's going to give you that wider field of view so you can see to the lane over, so you can safely make that lane change, park your trailer, or possibly even just pull up at the campgrounds. That wider field of view definitely helps out seeing everything and it gives us the confidence that we can safely get down the road. Because, let's face it, it's not really a good practice to stick your head out the window, to see what's going on with your trailer behind you. Now, our towing mirror is going to secure itself to our factory mirror, and again provide us an additional mirror so we can see what's going on. Now, the mirror itself is fully adjustable.

It's on a ball socket, so we'll have full adjustment of up and down, left and right, and diagonally. And if we really want a wide angle view, we can always rotate the mirror so it's to the side, getting that wide view, rather than a tall view. The mirror is going to be held on to the factory mirror by these rubber straps. And we've got a couple of hooks that are going to hold it in place. And I know a lot of customers get a little bit nervous when you talk about attaching things to the paint, but it is rubber. It is a soft rubber.

So not only is it going to help hold the mirror securely to the mirror, but it's also going to prevent any kind of scratches or abrasions, because again, it is that soft rubber. Now, our mirror is adding a little bit to the outside of our Jeep, because it is an additional piece. And we don't always have that extra space, sometimes we may need to fold our mirror in. Well, we can still fold our mirror in, but you just want to pay attention to this lower section right here, because it does make contact with the door sill, so we can get our mirror partially folded in for a little bit of an added clearance. I know a lot of customers are worried about the factory mirror adjustment, because we have a couple tabs are going to be going onto the housing. But you can see, we still have full adjustment to adjust your mirror, so we can see exactly what's going on and get that perfect viewing angle.I really like this mirror because it's a very simple, easy use design.

Simple straps, get them secure, hold the mirror really well in place, and it provides us with a large additional mirror so we can see what's going on behind us. Now, if you'd like a mirror that has a couple of different mirrors on there, maybe a spot mirror, there is a dual view mirror available. But again, this is really simple, really easy to use, if you just want to be able to see your trailer behind you. Now, what is really nice is that it does have a universal design. So if you have multiple vehicles in your family that you tow with, chances are, this might fit that as well.

Then you can get it as a single unit like we have here, or you can get it as a set, so you're going to have a mirror for the passenger side as well. But with all that being said, let's show you how easy it is to get our mirrors in place. Now, getting our mirror in place is extremely easy. You just want to open up the arms and on each one of the arms, you'll see that we have these tabs. These tabs need to go right in between the mirror housing and the mirror glass. I always like to get the bottom ones in place first, just because they kind of help set the mirror in place, and you just kind of adjust the arms. So those tabs will sit on the housing, just hold it with your hand and grab the strap from underneath. You just want to go around the housing, stretching the strap. And if you need to loosen it up, just simply feed the strap through either way, shorten it or tighten it up, simply clip it on.But then it's just a matter of getting the mirror adjusted to get the viewing angle we want when we're driving down the road. But again, I'm Rob here at etrailer.com, and that'll finish up your look at the CIPA clip-on towing mirror, on our 2018 Jeep Cherokee.
