How to Install the CIPA Clip-on Towing Mirror on a 2020 Subaru Forester

Ryan: Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer.com. Today on our 2020 Subaru Forester, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the CIPA Universal Fit Towing Mirror, which is also sold as a set.Whenever we use a towing mirror, it's really going to help expand our field of view. So that can really be useful whenever we're making a lane change, maybe trying to back up into a tight parking spot, or just want to keep a closer eye on what's going on behind us.So to give you an example on how much more ground we're going to be able to cover, you can see I'm visible in our towing mirror but not in our factory mirror. However, if I take a few steps closer to our trailer, I disappear out of the towing mirror and become visible in our factory mirror. That's really going to help eliminate any of those blind spots as well.So one of the big questions we get asked all the time in regards to these universal fit towing mirrors, is if you're going to have any vibration or noise, especially at higher speeds Well, to be honest with you, this one fits nice and tight. You can see if I kind of bounce it around, it's actually physically moving our factory mirror as well.

So really don't see that giving you any issues. And if you need to adjust your factory lens, you're still able to do so. There will be a little bit of contact on the very end of each sweep, but for the most part, we're still able to maintain all those typical sweet spots that we would usually use.And let's say, for whatever reason, if you need to fold your mirrors in, maybe you parked on the street or something like that, you're still able to do so. Now when we pull it all the way in, there is a tiny bit of contact right there. But it is along this little rubber edge, so you're not going to have to worry about it scratching up your paint or anything like that.So these straps that actually hold your tow mirror on, are made from a soft rubber. So not only are they going to do a good job by kind of grip in that factory housing, but you're not going to have to worry about them harming your mirrors finish. And since these mirrors are universal, chances are pretty good if you happen to have another vehicle in the household, that these are going to work with it as well.

And if that is the case, it's really not a huge deal to switch them around whenever you want. That's because they are so easy to put on and take off. Speaking of which, let's go ahead and put one on together now.So to get the mirror on, what you're going to do is simply just hold it flat against your factory housing here. Find a good spot where it sits nice and flush and hold it in place with one hand and move around to the other side. At this point, we can grab our straps and we're going to take the buckles here and simply just place them around those tabs.

And if you picked up a set, you'd simply just repeat this same process over on the other side. And that'll finish up our look at and our installation of the CIPA Universal Fit Towing Mirror on our 2020 Subaru Forester.
