How to Install the CIPA Dual-View Clip-on Towing Mirror on a 2018 Jeep Cherokee

Rob: Hey everybody. It's Rob here at etrailer.com. And today we're going to be taking a look at the CIPA dual-view towing mirror on our 2018 Jeep Cherokee. Now, we got our Cherokee hooked up to our trailer here, and you can clearly see me in the factory mirror. But the problem comes in is if I start stepping away. Whenever we're pulling a trailer, we really need to pay attention to that outside lane, whenever we're on the highway, we need to change lanes or possibly when we're pulling over the campgrounds or parking our trailer. But again, once I move away, it's going to be really hard to keep track of me.

But that's where our towing mirror's going to help. It's going to give you a much wider field of view so we can see in that next lane over to make sure it's safe for us to change lanes. We can see what's going on with our tires when we're going around a turn on our trailer and just have an overall better confidence to get down the road so we don't have to worry about sticking our head out the window and looking back at our trailer. Now, our towing mirror is going to attach directly to our factory mirror, and it's going to use these rubber straps to hold it in place. Now, I know a lot of customers are a little nervous about that, but again, there are rubber and it's a nice soft material. So it's going to do a really good job of holding the mirror in place, but it's also going to prevent any kind of scratches or abrasions on the paint. Now, the CIPA is a dual-view mirror.

So we are going to get two separate mirrors. Now both of them are going to be fully adjustable so we can get the angle that we want to see everything behind us pretty well. The large mirror is going to feature a flat piece of glass, which is going to give you a really good idea of what's directly behind you. Now, whereas the small mirror is going to have a convex piece of glass and it's going to act more a spot mirror. So if you really want a good adjustability to see what's behind you and really get that wide angle view with the spot mirror, I think a dual-view mirror definitely is a good choice. So a lot of times towing mirrors can interfere with the factory operation of our mirror.

But fortunately, this one still allows us to do a lot of things. We don't always have this extra space. Sometimes we need to fold the mirrors in. While we still can without removing the tow mirror, it does get pretty close down here at the bottom by the door sill, but it doesn't make any contact, so we can still fold it in if we need that extra space. And our factory mirror glass is still going to be fully adjustable.

You don't have to worry about the towing mirror interfering with it. You can still get that angle to see what's behind us and have full adjustments. But if you do a lot of towing with your Cherokee, I definitely recommend getting a dual-view mirror. I feel like it just has a lot more adjustability and you can definitely fine-tune exactly what you're looking at. Now, one of the best parts is the fact that it is a universal mirror, because if you tow with a few different vehicles in your family, chances are this might fit that as well. Now, you can get the mirror as a single unit like this or you can get it as a set, so you're going to have a mirror on each side of your Jeep. But now that we've seen our mirror looks like and gone over some of the features, let's show you how easy it is to get it installed. Getting our mirror in place is extremely easy. Just want to open up the arms. And we've got these four tabs here, these little tabs, and you just slide in between the mirror housing and the mirror glass. I always like to get the bottom one in place first, when you can kind of just rest on the bottom of the mirror. And you just want to take your hand, kind of hold the mirror in place and reach around the back side, and we'll run the strap up and hook it on the hook. Now, if you need to adjust the strap, it's just a matter of feeding the strip in, making it shorter, or feeding it through to make it longer. So we can get it hooked on and get the tension right. But then it's just a matter of adjusting the mirror so we can have that viewing angle that we want when we're driving down the road. But once you're done with that, you're ready to hit the road. But again, I'm Rob here at etrailer.com. And that'll finish up your look at the CIPA dual-view clip on towing mirror on our 2018 Jeep Cherokee.
