How to Install the CIPA Dual-View Clip-On Towing Mirror on a 2020 Ford Explorer

Ryan: Hey, everybody. Ryan here at each trailer.Today on our 2020 Ford Explorer, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the CIPA Dual Lens Universal Fit Towing Mirror which is also sold as a set.Whenever we use a towing mirror, it's really going to help expand our field of view, and that can really be useful whenever we're making a lane change, maybe backing up into a tight parking spot, just want to keep a closer eye on what's going on behind us. So to give you an example on how much more ground we're going to be able to cover, you can see I'm visible in our towing mirror, but not in our factory mirror. And with that dual lens design, what's kind of nice is we have a couple different angles added. So if I take a few steps closer to our trailer, I'll disappear out of that towing mirror and become visible in our factory mirror. And that's really going to help eliminate any of those blind spots as well.So one of the big questions we get asked all the time in regards to universal fit towing mirrors is if you're going to have any rattle or vibration, especially at higher speeds.

To be honest with you, this one does fit nice and tight against our factory housing. If I move it around, the mirror itself has a little bit of play, but none in the connection point here. So when you're traveling down the highway, I really don't see that noise and vibration being an issue for you. What's nice is when we have our towing mirror in place on our factory mirror, we're still able to adjust our factory glass. That way, we can accommodate for different drivers in different positions. There will be a little bit of contact on the very end of each sweep, but we're still able to maintain all of those typical sweet spots that we would usually use. Now, if you do find yourself in, say, maybe a tight parking situation, or if you park on the side of the road, what you can do is actually fold the mirrors in to free up that extra space.

So if you fold those in, once they stop, you can see that we're not going to have any contact there, so that's something we're not going to have to worry about. Now, I do want to mention that the strap on our towing mirror will partially cover up our blinker here, but not so much that other motorists won't be able to see it. And if your Explorer is equipped with blind spot monitoring, we're not going to have to worry about losing that feature either because our straps will not interfere with the sensor here. And those straps that actually hold our tow mirror on are made from a soft rubber material, so we're not going to have to worry about them moving around and scratching up our mirror's finish. Now since these mirrors are universal, if you do happen to have another vehicle in the household, chances are pretty good these will be able to work with it as well. And if that is the case, it's really not a huge deal to switch them around back and forth if you need to. That's because they are extremely easy to put on and take off. Speaking of which, let's go ahead and put one on together now.So to get the mirror on, we're first going to take it like this and just hold it flat against our factory housing here.

You're going to find that good level spot where you want it. We'll keep it in place with one hand to move around to the other side. From there, we can take our straps and these little buckles on the end. We'll simply just loop over these tabs up here. Now if you did pick up a set, you'd simply just repeat this same process over on the other side. And that'll finish up our look at and our installation of our CIPA Universal Fit Dual Lens Towing Mirror on our 2020 Ford Explorer.
