How to Install the CIPA Clip-on Towing Mirror on a 2018 Dodge Durango

Ryan: Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. Today on our 2018 Dodge Durango, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the CIPA 00:02:55 Universal Fit Towing Mirror, which is also sold as a set.Whenever we use a towing mirror, it's really going to help expand our field of view. That can really be useful whenever we're, maybe making a lane change, backing up into a tight parking spot, or maybe just wanting to keep a closer eye on what's happening behind us. So to give an example on how much more ground, we're going to be able to cover, as you can see, I'm visible in our tow mirror, but not in our factory mirror. However, if I take a few steps closer to our trailer, I'll disappear out of that towing mirror and become visible in our factory mirror. That's really going to help eliminate any of those blind spots as well. One of the big questions we get asked all the time in regards to universal fit towing mirrors is, if you're going to have any noise or vibrations, especially at higher speeds.

To be honest with you, this one does fit pretty tight against our factory housing. So I really don't see that being an issue for you, at least not enough to bother you. What's nice too, if you need to adjust your factory mirror, you're still able to, and you could move it up and down, side to side. There will be a little bit of contact at the very end of each sweep, but we're still able to maintain all those typical spots we would usually use. And even though the strap on our tow mirror does partially block our turn signal on our factory mirror, we're still able to see the majority of it and maintain that additional safety feature. Now, let's say for whatever reason, if you need to fold your mirrors in, say, maybe you're parked on the street, we're still able to.

There will be a little bit of contact there at the very end of it, but we're still able to practically get them in completely. The straps that hold our towing mirror in place are made from a soft rubber. So not only are they going to help kind of grip our factory housing, but we're not going to have to worry about them scratching up the paint either. Now, since these mirrors are universal, chances are pretty good, if you happen to have another vehicle in the household, they're probably going to work with that too. And if that's the case, it's really not a big deal to switch them around if you need to.

And that's because they are so easy to put on and take off. Speaking of which, let's go ahead and put one on together now.So to get the mirror on, you're just going to want to hold it like this. We're going to set it flat against our factory mirror, in that good spot where you want it. Hold it in place with one hand and move around to the other side. We're just going to take the little buckles here on our straps and loop them over these tabs.

And if you did end up getting a set, you'd simply just repeat the same process over on the other side. And that'll finish up our look at and our installation of the CIPA Universal Fit Towing Mirror on our 2018 Dodge Durango.
