How to Install the CIPA Clamp on Universal Fit Towing Mirror on a 2016 Jeep Compass

Today on our 2016 Jeep Compass we're going to be doing a test fit on the CIPA universal bar clamp-on towing mirror. That's part number CM11980. It offers us a wide field of view. It's going to allow us to safely and easily change lanes, pass, park, or even backup while towing a trailer or camper. As you can see, I'm visible in the towing mirror but not so much the factory mirror. If I take a few steps in towards my trailers you can see there's no blind spot by the way we have it set up. This is the view you'd get with just your factory mirror. The mirror itself can be rotated 360 degrees, so if you'd like to keep it at that horizontal view you have that option.

It can also be adjusted to most angles, got our up and down, diagonal, and side-to-side. By loosening up the large nut up top here we can extend our mirror out to further suit our towing needs. The thumb screw here at the back allows us to adjust our mirror anywhere along the bar we want. If we'd like it down a little bit more we can just tighten it back up and we're all set. The clamps are not going to interfere with the operation or movement of our factory mirror, and we can even still fold it in. Here on the back side you can see that it doesn't use any rubber straps to hold it in place.

The nice thing about that is we don't have to worry about it scratching or harming the finish of our mirror. The mirror does come in a quantity of one so if you'd like to pick one up for the passenger side just use the same part number. Now I'll show you how easy it is to get installed. I'm here on the driver's side of my Compass. To begin our test fit let's go ahead and turn our mirror over. We're going to make sure that each one of our clamps here is opened up, that way we can easily fit it onto our housing.

We can just turn our knobs, make sure there's enough space. The housing's going to go between the bottom portion of the clamp and the padding here. Let's turn it back over. I'm just going to center mine up with the mirror here. Make sure it goes on all the way, hold it in place, and then tighten them down.

It's that easy. Let's get one done, go ahead and do the other one. Now we're ready to tow. That's going to complete our test fit on the CIPA universal bar clamp-on towing mirror, part number CM11980, on our 2016 Jeep Compass.
