How to Install a Curt Trailer Wiring Harness on a 2018 Acura RDX

Hey everyone, Shane here with etrailer.com. Today I have a 2018 Acura RDX. Now I want to walk through how to install the curt T-connector vehicle wiring harness, adding wiring to your vehicle, can allow you to give your trailer whatever it is you have hauling that has lights on it, the proper light functions from your vehicle while it's being towed. This wiring harness is going to be a very simple installation, just going to plug directly into some factory wiring. And the only thing you have to do is install a couple fuses and you're ready to go. It's going to give you three amps per circuit for your stop and turn signals.

Six amps per circuit for your tail lights. Nice thing about it is when we're not using it we can tuck it away behind our, in our storage compartment inside of our vehicle. Stays out of the weather, we don't have to worry about it corroding or anything like that. Where it's located is right here behind this panel. You pop this panel off, when your ready to use it you simply pull it out.

Run it right across this rubber seam here. Make sure you stay away from where your door connects and attach it to your trailer. When we're not using it again you simply roll it up, stick back in the compartment, put your lid back in place so it's ready to go for the next time. You can see it's going to give us plenty of length to get to our trailer wiring, if trailer wiring might be a little bit short. It's going to have a nice dust cap.

So when we are storing it we can keep our connections covered, we don't get them clogged up with any dirt and debris. Another nice feature with the wiring harness it's going to have a converter box. And what the converter box does is when you're connected to the trailer. If the trailer, has a wiring issue a short or something like that the converter box is going to keep that short from back feeding and causing any damage to your factory wiring. As I mentioned, it's going to be fused.

You're going to have one fuse here, and you're going to have a fuse to install open the engine compartment for the trailer tow package. Now your connection for this wiring harness is right behind this panel, right up in this corner. Very simple to get to it makes it very easy. Now that we've gone over some of the features let's go ahead and show you how to get it installed. Start our installation we're going to come to our driver's side. This panel right here, we need to pop it out. You can use a flat blade, screwdriver trim panel tool whatever you have, let's pop that out like that. And then our connector is going to be right up here located right about here behind this panel. There's no way to really cut the tape and extend it out. So you're just going to have to look up in there to see it. It's not too far, you can kind of see it's about right here. We're going to take this in and we need to connect it into that. You can see where the connector is there that's in a general idea of or general area of where it's going to be. So we'll just take our connector from our new wiring harness we're just going to plug it into it. Just like that Once we get it plugged in we can install our fuse. Now we need to find somewhere to mount our converter box. Now for demonstration purposes, we're not actually going to mount it. It is going to come with zip ties and it's also going to come with some two-sided sticky tape. You just want to find somewhere solid that you can mount it. You can probably mount it right on the side of this box here. Just stick it right to it. And then your wiring just going to be stored inside there until you need it. Then we're going to come to under our engine compartment, or under our hood, in our engine compartment right behind our breather box. We're going to have our fuse panel. We'll need to remove the lid, what we're going to do is we're going to come to the end closest to our air box. Right next to this blue fuse here. One, two, three, that fourth slot there is open. We're going to install these small 10 amp fuse into that slot. Once we get it installed, we can test it out and make sure everything's working correctly. Left, right, brakes, running lights. Once you've tested it out, you know, it's working correctly. You're ready to go. That's going to do it for looking at and installation on the Curt T-connector vehicle wiring harness on our 2018 Acura RDX..
