How to Install the Curt 5th Wheel Wiring Harness on a 2013 Ram 2500

Today I have a 2013 Dodge Ram 2500. We're going to be installing the Curt 5th wheel gooseneck custom wiring on this 7 hole connector, part number C56070. This is what it's going to look like when installed. This is going to come in handy, because you're not going to have to take your gooseneck or 5th wheel trailer wiring and run across your tailgate to plug it into the back of your truck, and possibly come unhooked. It's going to be inside the bed and secure. Now let's go ahead with our install. First thing we're going to want to do is take our 7-way connector out of the box, and figure out where we would like to place it. Now on our vehicle, we determined that this location right here is going to be perfect.

It's through the double wall, so it's far enough away from the outside of the truck that you're not going to damage anything. We've checked behind there, there's nothing there, so we're going to go ahead and inaudible 00:00:53 hole. Now we'll take our 2 1/8 hole saw, and we'll enlarge the hole. On the bottom side, behind the driver's rear wheel, you can see up in here is where we drilled our hole that came through. We're going to take our new jumper harness, and we're going to go from there to the factory 7-way connector, which will be located right here. We're simply going to unplug the factory one.

Squeeze the tab, pull it back, there's a little push tab right there, you just push in on that and you can just pull it back. Then you'll take your new harness, which is basically a jumper, you're going to take your new plug, you're going to snap it into the factory 7-way connector, push it in until you hear it click. You do the same thing with the other side of your new harness. Squeeze it nice and tight, then we're going to route our new wire up across, try to follow your factory harness the best that you can. Keep out of the way anything that's going to be moving or could potentially have some heat in it.

Then we'll take our new plug and push it up and plug it through the hole on that side. Now we can go to the topside and we can connect our other plug with the four screws that are supplied with it. Now, on our new plug, it's not a bad idea to put a little bit of dielectric grease on here, just to protect it. We'll take our supplied self-tapping screws, set it level, all around there. Now we can go to the bottom side, and we'll secure our wires. Then we're just going to take it, and we're going to zip tie it out of the way. We want to make sure it's not going to come in contact with anything, or flop around in there. Once you get over here and you have your access, you can just take it and loop it up, and we'll attach it up to the bottom of the body.

That will keep it nice and tucked out of the way. You just go along and cut off the end of the ties. We're going to be testing it with a Tekonsha 7-way trailer emulator laced out connector, part number 6562, available on our website. We've got our power, that's lit up. Let's go ahead and get some brakes, and left turn, right turn, and let's get a reverse light, and the trailer brake. Everything works. If you don't have one of these at your house, you can use a test light to test the circuit, it's all marked on the package. That's going to wrap up our install and look at the Curt 5th wheel-gooseneck custom wiring harness with 7 pull connector, part number C56070 on our 2013 Dodge Ram 2500.
