How to Install the Curt A25 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch on a 2021 Ram 3500

Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. Today on our 2021 Ram 3500, we're gonna be checking out the Curt A25 5th Wheel Hitch for the trucks that have the OEM prep package. We do get a lot of questions asking if something like this will fit with your particular truck or not. And as long as you have that OEM prep package, this should just drop right into place and work out well for you. And after I kind of played with these a few times, I feel like these prep packages should be, come right from the factory in just about every heavy duty truck. These things are awesome and they make everything really convenient when you want to use a hitch like this.

So 5th wheel hitch, a little bit bulkier and everything, but for the most part, they're just gonna drop right into place and lock in. And same holds true for even a goose neck. If you want to use a goose neck, ball just slides right into place and you can hook up to your trailer. So super convenient. And I definitely see this as a way of the future.

It's going to, you could drop this right in, hook up to your trailer and go, but on the same hand, a lot of times you don't want a big old hitch back here. I mean, this takes up quite a bit of the bed. In our case, this is a long bed. And it takes up about a third of it. And when you have a hitch permanently in here like this, it can get in the way sometimes.

And with this being able to come out real easy, if you did need full bed access, you could pop this out. Probably have a buddy give you a hand. These are pretty heavy. But once you slide it out of the way, you've got all this space back here. You can load up your lumber, materials, maybe some motorcycles, whatever the case may be, and it'll quickly and easily give you all that bed space.

So I just want to give you guys an idea of how easy these things really are to pull in and out of your truck. So whenever you're ready to pull it out, all you're gonna have to view on each corner here, it'll be a keeper you pull up on. These arms swing open. This'll do that on both front and back. And once you have those open, you're able to grab it and lift up on it and remove it. Now I'm not gonna pull it out of the bed completely, 'cause these things are really heavy. But as long as you've got a friend helping you out, this takes literally a matter of minutes and your whole hitch is out of the way. And it gives you all the bed room back. Whenever you're ready to use it again, you simply just drop it right in place into your factory system there. And you're just gonna close these and pin them down. And whenever you pin these down like this, that's actually what's gonna lock it in place. And very solid. Once you turn these arms in, it's gonna say locked in position. And honestly, I'll say this is probably the easiest one that I've ever done, as far as getting it out and dropping it back in. Usually you kind of have to manipulate it a little bit, just really kind of try to work it and find that sweet spot. Not the case at all with this one. This one pulled right out and dropped right back into place. And that's not because it's loose or anything like that. Once all these are tightened down, you really have no wiggle room in here and it's super secure. So honestly it give me the confidence I need pulling a big, heavy trailer down the road. Something that's pretty cool about this setup is whenever you're not hooked up to your trailer, the jaws are gonna remain open. So the handle is gonna be opened up and hitch is gonna be ready for you to back up to that trailer and get it all hooked up. So just gonna simulate, our king pin here, so. Whenever it locks in, you can see those jaws go all the way around the king pin. So really give you a confident connection there. And when it happens, that handle also comes down and locks into place. And just to be on the safe side, there's also a pin here. So you'll drop that pin through and lock it down. That way it will ensure that no matter what, this handle can not come opened accidentally. Something that is pretty neat on the back of the head here, you can see there's going to be a few colors. That's a chart. And also a color right there. And those colors are gonna kind of tell you what's going on. So you have red, which means uncoupled. You have green, which means you're ready to tow. You're locked in. And you have yellow, which means you're ready to hook up to your trailer. So right now, you have the arm open and you have that yellow triangle. Again, simulating our trailer once you back up to it. And it locks in, you can see that it goes green. So kind of a nice touch. They say you can see this from inside of your truck. It's a little small to be honest with you. I got inside the truck and looked back. You can see it. It takes a little bit of effort. I even tried to turn on our third brake light camera. And again, it's not blatantly obvious, but if you look hard enough, you can see it. And, even if you're just kind of walking around the truck and take a glance back here, it's a nice indicator and a nice touch nonetheless. So the hitch does have a fully articulating head. So you're gonna be able to go front to back, side to side, diagonally, every which way. And it's gonna do a couple of things. For one, it's gonna make it easier to back up and hook up to your trailer. 99% of the time it's not gonna be perfectly level, so it will make it easier to hook up. And not to mention, it's just gonna pull better down the road. It have a little more cushion in here, a little more movement, and absorb some of that road shock and everything else. And so that'll help keep the trailer pulling straight, and to mention kind of quiet down some of that road noise as well. The hitch is going to have a 24,000 pound weight capacity. So that's gonna be the amount of weight that's pulling on the hitch. Now I want to mention, you don't want to exceed your truck's limitations. You can find that information in your owner's manual. And at the end of the day, hitch I actually like. It's well built, everything's nice and thick steel. I feel like you can rely on it. And if someone we're to ask me if I would put this in my own truck, absolutely. Without a doubt. It's one that actually works, and you can get in and out without breaking your back. And that'll finish up our look at of the Curt A25 5th Wheel Hitch for trucks that have the OEM prep package on our 2021 Ram 3500..
