How to Install the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness on a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox

Ryan: Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. Today on our 2020 Chevrolet Equinox, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install a CURT custom-fit trailer wiring. So this wiring is going to provide us with the signals that we need to be safe and legal whenever we're pulling a trailer. And for those of you that have light up, hitch-mounted accessories, like some cargo carriers, for example, this is going to allow them to work properly as well. Now, what I really like about this setup is the fact that it utilizes the inaudible 00:00:33 factory tow package plug. So the manufacturer pretty much did all the work for us.

This one is just going to plug in and work like it should. Now I do want to mention not every single Equinox is going to have that plug, but it's really easy to find out. The connector is located right here in this area behind your bumper, so you can just take a peek up there and see if that plug is there to use. So wiring's really important whenever you're pulling a trailer, knowing that all of them signals are working properly, it's going to make you feel a little bit more safe as you're driving down the road. So this wiring is going to be mounted outside. I'm using a couple brackets to set it up like this.

These don't come included, but if you need some, you can find them here at etrailer. And since it is permanently mounted outside, it's going to be really easy to get to and you use whenever you do need it. And what's important is that this kit is really well-built. Everything feels heavy duty and it should last you a long time. It's going to have a little rubber dust cap here that helps keep the terminals protected underneath it.Now, I do recommend to go a step further and from time to time, just supply a little bit of dielectric grease to those terminals, and that'll help ensure that you don't have to worry about any corrosion issues down the road.

But at the end of the day, a really super easy and reliable way to get us those trailer signals that we need. Now since this essentially does is plug right in, as far as installation goes, it's not going to take you hardly any time at all. To begin our install, we're first going to need to locate our factory connector. It should be located behind our bumper right here in this area. So now here behind our bumper, what we're going to do to make it a little easier to gain access to her plug is remove this one bolt here, that's holding on the bottom of her fascia, take a seven millimeter socket and pull that out.

We should be able to pull down on her fascia a little bit, so if we look right up here, we're able to see that factory plug. Now it is going to have this little dummy cap on it. So we'll need to remove that and to do that, we'll push down on that red tab, and then push down here in the center, that tab. And We'll be able to remove that dummy plug. Now we can take our new wiring harness, and this end here, it's going to line up with that factory connector so we can raise this up into position, line it up, plug it right in, once it's connected, don't forget to push down on the red tab. That's like a locking device to make sure that it won't accidentally become disconnect. Now that we have it plugged in, what I'll go ahead and do is secure our wiring and route our four pole connector over where we're going to mount it. So I'll go ahead and do that now and show you how I did it.So I secured our wiring up here in this area, and I just used some of the included zip ties to do that. And our four pole connector, I just routed right over here through our hitch where we have it mounted. Once you have that done, go ahead and take that screw and just re-install it to secure your fascia. Something I want to mention, is that the kit does not come included with any brackets, so if you want it to be set up something like this, that is something you have to pick up separately, and you can find many different types of brackets here at etrailer. Now, it is a good idea to test our wiring, to make sure it's working properly. So we'll go ahead and turn on our running lights, we'll hit our brakes, we'll try our left turn, and our right turn, and that'll finish up our look-at and our installation of the CURT custom fit trailer wiring on our 2020 Chevrolet Equinox.
