How to Install the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness on a 2020 GMC Acadia

Hi there, Acadia owners. Today on your 2020 GMC Acadia, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install Curt's 4-pole flat trailer connector. This wiring harness is going to provide you with all the necessary lighting that you'll need for your trailer, which includes your left turn signal, right turn signal, tail lamps, and brake lamps. This will keep you DOT compliant in all states and has a super quick and easy installation. My favorite thing about this harness is how easy it is to install. You can see here on one side, we've got our 4-pole flat connector, and on the other side, we have a custom fit connector that's for our Acadia that plugs directly into our vehicle's factory harness. When using this 4-pole flat wiring harness, it does use your vehicle's existing wiring to provide the signals here at the back.

But the vehicle is prepared for that. It already has fuses and relays installed on it to accommodate all of these. If you do have a fault on your trailer, you just need to find the appropriate fuse for your trailer on your vehicle, which can be found in your owner's manual. Now that we've gone over some of the features, let's go ahead and get it up on the lift, and you can follow along with me to get it installed. We'll begin our installation underneath the vehicle here at the back. Slightly on our driver's side, but close to the center, our connectors are going to be located just straight up.

I'll be going in here next to our hitch, and we're going to be heading slightly over towards the driver's side. It's located on the metal panel up here. Now from here, I would just pull the connector down so we can pop it down, and then it'll make it a little easier to work with. We'll need to disconnect the dummy plug that's located in it. There is a red locking tab that we'll need to push over to do that.

We just push that tab over, and then we can press in on the release lever behind it, and then separate the two. They can be quite stiff when separating the two pieces. Now that we've got our dummy plugs removed, we can take our new harness and just bring it up there and just push the two together. Then press the red lock tab back down to secure them in place. If you pulled it down like I did, then we can take the little tab on the back, and push it back into the hole that was located up here to hold the connector up. On the other end of our 4-pole connector, we can take the dust cap that comes included with our kit, and slide it down over the 4-pole.

This'll keep out any dirt, debris, and moisture when we're not using it, and can also be used to secure it to our hitch, to hold it up off the road by wrapping it around the safety chain loop. Just click it into place, and there we go.If you'd like a more permanent solution, we do have 4-pole brackets available here at etrailer.com. With those 4-pole brackets, you will have to drill into your bumper to install. To avoid having to modify anything, we also have no-drill brackets that'll clamp onto your hitch. You can pick up a no-drill bracket, and then attach your 4-pole right to it. We've now plugged our tester into the back of the vehicle. You do have to start the vehicle in order to test all the lighting functions on your vehicle. But you want to make sure that you have your left turn signal, right turn signal, tail lamps, as well as your brake lamps. With everything working properly, we're ready to load up our favorite accessories or hitch and hit the road. That completes our installation of Curt's 4-pole flat trailer connector on our 2020 GMC Acadia.
