Review of the etrailer Hitch Cargo Carrier on a 2020 Kia Telluride

How's it going Ryan here at etrailer.com. Today on our 2020 Kia Telluride, we're going to be taking a look at the etrailer.com tilting and folding cargo carrier. So, this is going to be a great solution to either free up more space inside of your Telluride for more passengers and pets or just to carry more cargo in general. And this is going to be one of the larger cargo carriers available. It's going to measure 24 inches by 60 inches, so that's going to give us more than enough room to carry those full sized coolers, any of that camping gear, or even sporting equipment. Now, it's going to sit a pretty good distance behind our back bumper, which is going to make it really easy to get in here, get it connected or disconnected, and really easy to come in and reach our hatch to get it opened up. And since it does sit a little bit further back, one thing you're really not going to have to worry much about is called the break over point, and what that is is whenever you wanted to open up your hatch with your cargo loaded up, at some point the hatch is going to overlap with your carrier and potentially make contact with anything that you might have on it.

But this is actually going to be able to go up quite high before having to worry about that. That distance, where it would actually make contact, is about three feet, so that's pretty high. So, as long as you don't have anything stacked up past three feet back here, you're going to be able to have full hatch access. And if you wanted to, you could always tilt the carrier down. If you come here to this top pin, pull off your clip, may have to put a little upward pressure on the carrier to take some of the tension off the pin, pull it out, and it folds down a little more out of the way. Now, the overall length that the carrier is going to extend our Telluride by from the bumper to the edge of the carrier, it's going to be about 42 and a half inches, so that's something to keep in mind whenever you're pulling into your garage or a tight parking spot.

Now, if that's too long and you do need to free up a little bit of space, it's really not a big deal because this actually folds up. It's relatively easy to do, as well. Simply just pull this top pin as well as the bottom pen, flip it up, and then just put the pins back in, and that'll hold your carrier upright without having to worry about it falling down. Now, in this position, it does sit a lot closer to our Telluride, so it should free up quite a bit of space. And from the hatch here to the furthest point is only going to be about 17 inches.

In this position, in my opinion, you probably won't have many issues whenever you're trying to pull into your garage.Well, this is going to have a 500 pound maximum weight capacity, so that's going to give you more than enough to carry all of your typical equipment and gear. It's also going to have a mesh bottom, which is going to make it really easy to clean any mud or dirt off, and we're not going to have to worry about water puddling up either. So, this is going to work with two inch by two inch hitches like we have here on our Telluride today, and a nice touch that I really like is that it's going to have this collar. So, what you do is whenever you put the carrier in your hitch and line up your pin hole, you can then take your collar, slide it all the way to the end of your receiver tube, and lock it down. That way you have the depth set, so anytime you take it out or put it back in, you're not going to have to fight it to get that hole lined up.

You simply just push it all in until the collar stops and you know you're all lined up. And it's also going to come with a anti-rattle bolt, so when everything's lined up, you'll thread your bolt in, put on your clip, and that's going to eliminate any movement or play in the connection point, helping maintain that quiet Telluride. So, overall, a very functional carrier. It's going to give us a lot of different options on what we can carry. And that'll finish up our look at of the etrailer.com tilting and folding cargo carrier on our 2020 Kia Telluride.
