How to Install the Hopkins Endurance Fifth Wheel Wiring Harness on a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado

Today on our 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 3500, we'll be installing the Hopkins Endurance 5th Wheel/Gooseneck 90-Degree Wiring Harness, Part Number 41157. Now, to begin our install, we're going to our 7-pole, supplied with the install kit, and mount it here in the pickup bed on the driver's side, behind the wheel well, in front of the tailgate. This will give us easy access. To mount it in the pickup bed side, we're going to go ahead and drill through the bed liner, through the sheet metal, and then mount it using the self-tapping screws provided with the install kit. Now, we need to make a hole large enough for the back of the 7-pole socket, so we're going to drill out a 2-1/8 inch hole as per the instructions. Now with the hole drilled out, we need to take the 7-pole connector that matches the back of our 7-pole socket, and feed it from underneath, up and out through our cut out hole. Then, we'll go ahead and take the 7-pole connector, attach the wiring harness, and mount it to the pickup bed side. Now, I'm going to go ahead and feed the 7-pole over the frame and then up through our hole.

Now that we've got access to our 7-pole connector here in the pickup bed, I'm going to go ahead and apply some of the dielectric grease that's provided with the install kit. Dielectric grease on the connector will help prevent corrosion that can build up from moisture getting to the connector. Just put an ample amount on there and then take the 7-pole connector, match up our locking tabs, firmly pressing them together locking them in place. Then go ahead and feed the remaining portion of the harness back behind the pickup bed side and then use the self-tapping screws to secure it to the pickup bed. Now, with our 7-pole connector mounted in the pickup bed, we'll move underneath and take the T-connector portion of our wiring harness and plug into the back of the manufacturer's 7-pole here, mounted underneath the bumper. To do that, we'll go ahead and press on the locking tab, remove the connector from the back of the bumper-mounted 7-pole, and again we're going to apply some dielectric grease to the terminals.

Some on the manufacturer's side. I'll take the T-connector that will match up to it, plug the two together, check my connection, and then put some dielectric grease on the other side of the T-connector. This will then get plugged into the back of our bumper-mounted 7-pole connector. I've got a good connection. Next, I'll take the remaining portion of my harness, wrap it up, and secure it here behind the bumper, leaving the white wire out, providing a ground for our 7-pole connector. Use a self-tapping screw to secure it to the frame.

Now, with a nice, secured ground connection, I'm going to go ahead and cut the excess off the zip ties to clean up the install look, and we're ready to hit the road. That'll do it for install of the Hopkins 5th Wheel/Gooseneck 90-Degree Wiring Harness, Part Number 41157, on our 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 3500. .
