How to Install a Hopkins Endurance Fifth Wheel Wiring Harness on a 2012 Ford F-250


Today, on our 2012 Ford F 250, we'll be installing the Hopkins Endurance 5th Wheel Gooseneck 90 Degree Wiring Harness with 7 Pole Plug, Part Number 41157. To begin our install, we'll first locate in the pickup bed where we will be mounting our new 7 pole connector. Here on the driver side between the wheel well and the rear tail light, would be a perfect location. We'll go ahead and use a pilot bit to drill out the hole. We'll go ahead and use our hole saw to drill out the larger hole so that it will fit the socket and connector. Now, with the large hole drilled out, move underneath the vehicle. We'll need to remove the manufacturer's 7 pole plug to gain access to the connector wiring.

To remove the 7 pole connector, we'll need to press on the 2 metal tabs on the top and bottom and then pull the connector through the bracket. Now to gain additional length to the wire to make it a little easier, we're going to go ahead and remove the mounting tab here on the frame. We can pull the wiring connector through the bracket, press on the locking tab, and remove the 7 pole connector from the 7 pole wiring. Next, we'll take the new 7 pole wiring and plug in line with the manufacturer's wiring matching up the connector ends. We'll firmly press them into place and make sure they locked into position. Then we'll take the other end and run it through the 7 pole bracket and connect it to the manufacturer's 7 pole connector. Now with our wires here connected at the hitch, we'll go ahead and reinstall the 7 pole connector.

Next we'll take the wiring and feed it over the hitch and behind the bumper. Here, we'll take the other end of our Hopkins 7 pole connector and feed it over the frame to our hole we cut into the bed. Go ahead and feed it through the hole. Now we'll move into the bed. We'll take the wire that we fed through the hole and add some dielectric grease as provided with our install kit. Then we'll go ahead and plug the 7 pole wiring into the back of the new 7 pole connector.

Once we have it secured and locked in place, we'll go ahead and take the 4 self tapping screws provided with our install kit and secure the 7 pole connector to the side of the bed. We'll move back underneath the vehicle. Here we'll take the white wire with the pre-attached ring terminal and a self tapping screw and secure it to the frame grounding our new 7 pole wiring. Then using some black zip ties, we'll go ahead and secure our wiring here, up underneath the bed. Once we have the wiring secured, we'll go ahead and cut off the excess from the zip ties to clean up our install look. This completes the install of the Hopkins Endurance 5th Wheel Gooseneck 90 Degree Wiring Harness with 7 Pole Plug, Part Number 41157 on our 2012 Ford F 250.
