How to Install the Hopkins Endurance Fifth Wheel Wiring Harness on a 2013 Ram 3500

Today on our 2013 Ram 3500, we're going to be taking a look at and installing the Hopkins Endurance 5th wheel/gooseneck 90-degree wiring harness with a 7-pole plug, Part Number 41157. The Endurance series plugs feature an oversized hinge and a lid that opens 180 degrees. What's good about this is you still have use of your factory 7-way connector and you have one inside your bed. It's got a nice weather-tight seal on the inside to keep out all the moisture. This is what it looks like installed. Now let's show you how to install it. Our kit does come with a 10-foot cable, so you can pretty much locate it anywhere you want in your bed. It has a 90-degree end so it will fit up inside your bed rail in this cavity, and it's got a pass-through so you can plug it into your factory 7-way connector with no cutting of the wiring. To begin our installation, we're going to go and find our 7-way plug.

You're simply going to squeeze in and pull off your plug. Now we're going to install one-half of our new plug until you hear it click. You can do the same thing on the other side, and we can route our wire. We're going to make sure we tie this back enough, and we have our spare tire removed just so you can see what we're doing here, but you want to make sure you have enough room, so just push it back, and we can zip tie it to the factory harness. Once you have it zip tied, cut off the excess to clean up our look. Now we're going to need to attach the ground wire.

We're going to take a self-tapping screw, and just put it into the sheet metal underneath the bed. You want to make sure there's nothing behind it. You want to bundle up your excess, and attach it to the bottom side of the vehicle. We decided to mount our plug right here, so we're going to drill a pilot hole. Now our vehicle, it's a Dually, so it's got plenty of room between the inner fender and the outer fender. We'll take our 2-1/8th inch hole saw, and we'll make a hole.

We can file out the edges and make sure we have a nice smooth edge. Once you have all the edges knocked down, then we're going to take our paint pen, and we'll touch it up. Now we can pull our plug up into position. Since it has a 90-degree plug on the backside, that doesn't come in contact with the fenders of your vehicle. Push it together, listen for the snap, and we'll place the plug onto the body, take our supplied hardware, which is a washer and self-tapping screw.

You center up your plug in the hole, making sure it's level. The kit does come with some terminal grease, which is a dielectric grease. I recommend that you put some inside just to protect it from the elements since this is going to be open to the air behind your cover. It's going to help prevent corrosion and moisture build-up. That's going to do it for our look at and install of the Hopkins Endurance 5th wheel/gooseneck 90-degree wiring harness with 7-pole plug, Part Number 41157, on our 2013 Ram 3500.
