How to Install the Hopkins Endurance Multi-Tow Trailer Connector on a 2014 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter

Today on this 2014 Mercedes Benz Sprinter Van, we're going to install part number HM48470 from Hopkins. Now our new connector is going to replace the pre-existing seven pole connector on our van. We'll go and dismantle your existing connector and get down to our bare wires. Once we're down to our bare wires we'll go ahead and even them out. Take our four pole wires and spread them apart. Now our four pole wire we have a white ground wire which really isn't being used, so we're just going to cut it off short because we already have a pre-existing ground wire thats much larger and can carry the current of our remaining wires. Okay, we take our wires and we're going to run them through the cover here first.

Make things easier when we take them out of our bracket. Now we'll go ahead and take our wires and we'll strip them back about a quarter inch. We'll go ahead and loosen up all the screws behind our connector now. Now there's no indication of functions or labels on these tabs so you do have to keep a hold of the instructions. So let's work our way around in installing our wires. We'll go ahead and take a wire and slide it into place underneath the plate.

Okay, we'll go ahead and insert the wire in the clamp and then just tighten it down. Alright, this one will be a left turn, that will be for our ground. Alright, now this one will be for our break signal, and that will be a blue wire. Now on this particular van the backup wire is not being used, if we did use that, that would go in the center right here. To help protect some of our connections here, we'll go ahead and apply some dielectric grease.

Okay, make sure we get them coated as best we can then we'll go ahead and snap on our cover. Okay, we'll tighten up this screw to seal up the backside. We'll go ahead and use some tape to help bundle up our wires. Then we'll go ahead and attach it to the bracket. Now luckily our bracket has a little cut in it to run the wires through, there we go, to put it back in place. Now if your bracket didn't have the cut in there, you could just simply cut it.

Now it does come with a new bracket if you want to change it out completely anyway which is identical to this one. Alright, we'll go ahead and install our new hardware that comes with the connector. There's a hex bolt that will fit in the socket. We have a flat washer, a lock washer, and a nut behind it. Now do the same thing for the remaining fasteners. And so our hardware is loosely installed, we'll go ahead and tighten it down. We'll go ahead and add a zip tie to help secure our wire. Okay and with that our new connector is installed on our van. That will finish it for part number HM48470 from Hopkins on our 2014 Mercedes Benz Sprinter Van. .
